What is the Winter Festival?

It is a three-part festival: firstly, it is a trading of drabbles between writers; secondly, it is a writing of fanfics by those who seek a challenge; and thirdly, it is a display of winter themed art. In the participant section, there is also a place to show off winter and holiday themed stories and art from years past.

It is a combination of the Dream Elf Stocking Stuffer Het Swap and the LOTR All Slash Yahoo Group Christmas Swap, with the added elements of the challenges. (Meaning neither the Dream Elf nor LOTR All Slash swaps will take place, as the Winter Festival swap combines those). Screw Yule will still take place at Little Balrog in January.

It's life, Jim, but not as we know it

I feel as if I should do a 'real' journal entry. Not a meme, or announcement, or fic post, or anything like that. Let's see if I still remember how to do this.

Been watching a lot of Olympics. Have had a sinus infection/cold for the last nine days. Tomorrow will be day ten, as I doubt it will be gone completely. Have gone through... *counts* five boxes of kleenex.

Whoa... someone just popped up on my friend list, and I don't recognize them. Right-o.

I found a flash-drive-o-fun today. About a dozen and a half IM RPs I did with Jules that I thought were lost forever (both our computers took dumps within a few months of each other). I shall post the one that worked as a story later this week; have to let the run off from the august swap subside before I do any posting.

My personal goal had been to finish Unforgettable before the swap stories got released. Excuse me a moment while I laugh sadly about the sixty some chapters I have left to go.

Let's see... flash drive also had the Fingon/Caranthir story on it that I... totally forgot about. Because that was at least six months ago. Maybe more like a year and a half. Either way, not happening, so I have to recycle a fic... well, at least I'm being 'green' about it. No fic wasting going on here.

I made a really good salad tonight... tomatoes and mozzerella and red peppers and olives and (dun dun dun) celery. (the dun dun dun was for Dark). Also, there was quiche. I eat my quiche with (dun dun dun) barbeque sauce on it. (that second one was for the hell of it)

Note: fifty+ purple stuffed bunnies looming over you with little black beady eyes in the shadows is sort of freaky at 11pm... shit, they're like, watching me and stuff

One of our betta fish died tonight... Mark's fish, actually, Jimmy... he was purple and red. Poor fishy. I'm a little worried, 'cause it tends to happen that we'll lose a couple at once, and my Glorfindel betta at work was acting funny before I left for the weekend.

Oh, and speaking of fish.. I learned why the big aquarium at work was so messy. We had... get this... fish in the filter. A pair of minnows got up in there (born and sucked up into it as fry?) and were happily living in the middle part (sixty gallon filter). As Monty said, best place to be, the water's clean, the food comes right in, and there's no worries the snail might eat you.

They are finally doing all the things I've been complaining about on campus. The big map that still showed Czechoslovakia and other nonexistant countries (I used to point out things that weren't really on it when I passed by, like Siam and Persia, and see who noticed I was bullshitting)... they're getting a brand new map for the new semester. And our tan walls? Repainting them white. (well, in the library, I got them to paint them eggshell... heh... as the operations manager said 'paint the doors lilac if she wants, so she stops bugging me' you heard him boys, heh). As this was all being pointed out, I said, 'well, if they're doing all that, they should paint those hideous orange lockers, too'... at which point I turned around to find... a whole hallway of repainted lockers! le gasp! They're a dark tan/light brown color... much better than orange and yellow!

Now... for my final trick... to get someone to come and paint my yellow shelves in the library. It will happen, by Jaga, if I...

Huh, where'd that come from? I haven't 'by Jaga'ed in years. Hee hee. That's funny. I am amused.
