More to follow. My camera was practically out of battery power, so I snapped a couple, plus one was on from the other day when the-- oops, Harley just fell off the side of the chair. (poor guy, he's such a big boy from the maine coon part, but he thinks he's still kitten-sized). Where was I... oh, the other day, the roses started blooming! Yay!
I'm going back out in a little bit to plant two more rose bushes and will snap more pics then!

Rose Bush & Bird House
Picture taken on May 25, 2010. The first rose of the year! The rest have been blooming at a rate of a dozen a day (only lasting a day or two). The bees have been going nuts! (We have both honey bees and bumble bees living in the stone and wood retaining walls between our property and the property to our east. Luckily, I love bees, and have had them land on me numerous times -- never been stung.) |

Side of House
Here's the side of the house. Between the air conditioner and the gas meter, we have white puffball peonies, queen anne's lace, and something green. (Dogwood, perhaps? Haven't figured it out yet.) In the front, you can see some of the bushes and further out the maple tree.) |

Back of House
Across the back of the house, from the gutter to the patio, I got this great idea first to have a couple of planters, each with flowers of a particular color in them. The first one was all red, and another all purple (we were actually going to mix them, and have a red and purple thing going on along the whole thing). Then, I found some great yellow flowers, and some orange ones, and... you get the idea. Then, there was a hunt for blue flowers, and green flowers. Well, everything is here, mostly, except some of the blue ones are only seedlings on the left end, and the green flower bulbs have only just shot up the last couple of days. I'll take more pictures once it all fills out. So, that's my rainbow garden. |

Garden
Here's the main event. Ignore the pile of grass and weeds in the lower left corner; those came from cultivating the garden on the second tier. I'll take more pictures that better show what's where, but it's a fairly good overall shot. The stone steps are a work-in-progress, as I've never built steps before (they basically work, but I'm not 100% happy with it yet). The tree in the middle of the garden is a black walnut, so since it produces a 'crop', it gets to stay (we were going to keep it anyhow, but now it seems like it belongs). There's a second black walnut behind the little gollumy statue, not sure if it will be able to stay or not with the other one. There's also a black walnut behind our garage where the pine trees are and no other in the area, so we know who the mommy/daddy is! |
