About the Friendlocking that I expect shall sweep through..

I always have kept this journal open (for the most part) and I intend for it to stay that way.

A few weeks back, there was some discussion on a yahoo group about Tolkien's works and fanfiction, and how terrible fanfics with incest in them were.

Ah, but Tolkien never would do such a thing! was the outcry. Or, would he?

When you consider, Galadriel and Celeborn are second cousins, and Elrond and Celebrian were first cousins, twice removed. Dior and Nimloth were second cousins once removed, and Turin and Niniel have to take the cake, being brother and sister.

If we're going to remove works with incest in them, we might as well just have a bonfire and toss everything the professor wrote on Middle-earth into the flames, because I'm sure there's more than what I mentioned hanging about in the books.. I wonder how closely the hobbits are related to each other, I mean, everyone calling each other cousin and uncle..

Now, as for discussions of people writing about underage sex.. let's look no further than to the Bard himself, and if that's a no-no in fiction, we had better stop reading Romeo and Juliet, because if you hadn't noticed, she's quite a bit younger than he is when they go run off to get married and sleep together. I won't even go into all of the young adult novels that are out there these days where there is underage sex in the book. We'd be here far too long.

For now, I think the addition to my profile is a good summary, though, perhaps not as eloquent as I had hoped, but it's late, and I've spent the evening painting my Elrohir action figure and bidding on things I don't need on ebay (Mir's fault for sending me a link...)

My name is Zhie, and I believe in the freedom to read. Words are not evil, but they are powerful and empowering, helpful and therapeutic, informative, dangerous, and absolutely necessary. I believe in acceptance over censorship... sticks and stones can break our bones, but words can never hurt us.

oh, l'amour!

*happy kabuki dance singing song*
I got my Erasure tickets... I got my Erasure tickets...

Level One, Center, Row E, seats 3 and 4

In a theatre that has three levels

*continues happy dancing*

So many times I kept thinking, poo, they never come to Milwaukee, I'll never get to see them...

Even more amazing? Both tickets plus the service charge, taxes, shipping of tickets, etc, cost almost exactly what one ticket alone cost to see the Journey/Def Leppard concert, which was in a much, much bigger place and to which we had not so great seats shoved off on one side

But see, today, I made sure I was sitting here right for the beginning of the presale. Well, I did the same thing for Def Leppard, but apparently, I just didn't have that exact magic touch on the mouse to click it right at the best time

I got my Erasure tickets... I got my Erasure tickets...

(Uh-oh! Could the big bad nasties who are patrolling LJ decide that this entry is totally, totally something or other because I'm talking about going to a concert where the singer is homosexual and his songs sometimes reflect this! Oh no! When will the insanity stop?! Where are the LJ secret police? Hide me! (or perhaps that should be Save me, darling! to keep in the spirit of things)

:P

So anyhow... I got my Erasure tickets... I got my Erasure tickets...

The silent protest for those in fandom begins

A community that is simply a headcount, of those in fandom, mostly having to do with standing together against this sudden issue of what does and does not belong on LiveJournal

http://community.livejournal.com/fandom_counts/

Fishnet Glorfindel wants you to join. You won't say no to him, will you? (rumor has it he fought the balrog in high heels, but that's a discussion for another time.. wait, is discussion of crossdressing not allowed on LJ now? Perhaps if we give it enough time...)

Pass it on.
