I am planning our vacation to Georgia.
Last night, I bought the plane tickets. 354 bucks, roundtrip, for both tickets. Nice deal. I like deals.
That will explain this next part.
Looked at hotels. Looked at the conference hotels.
Oh, yes. By the way. I am going to this DragonCon thing. I am going, because my ego is nearly too big to fit through a door, and I was asked to be part of the lotr fanfic authors panel thing. You and I and my ego all know such a thing cannot be turned down if possible. September 1-4; when I have more info, I shall divulge it.
Back to the planning.
I found a hotel near the conference hotels. Eleven bucks cheaper per night, plus these are suites not just single rooms, with complimentary hot breakfast, mini fridges, and microwaves. Also, not at the hotel proper; means I can actually sleep (something I've learned after not getting any in high school and college that I like very much).
Ten blocks from the convention - not a problem. Lovely scenery. Yay. Problem: The 139/night rate is only for Sep 1 and onward.
We're arriving on August 30. Rate is 185/night, same room.
Here's where it gets goofy. If we stay Aug 30 - Sep 5, then we pay 185/night straight through (with a discount on the weekend). If we make two separate reservations, Aug 30 - Sep 1; Sep 1- Sep 5, then we pay a rate of 185/night the first two nights, check out, check in, 139/night.
So, this is what we did. Now, I'm paying the two night stay ahead of time, just did actually, so that's 400 bucks nearly even. Then, the other four days are 660 bucks (this is all including taxes). Had we done the whole thing as one big party, it would have been 1300 and then some, so this way, we're saving over two hundred dollars for about three hours of inconvenience (the time between check out and check in). For the one I'm paying ahead of time, I spent an extra ten bucks a night for the 'room with a view', and paid ahead of time, knocking twenty bucks off per night. So, we will have totally different rooms between the two stays.
I did call the hotel and ask them about this, and it is just the way things are set up on the computer. They figure, if you're in on Aug 30, you're there on business. If you're in on Sep 1, you're there for fun, family, etc. *shrugs* I told them at the desk what I was going to do, to make sure it would be okay and I wouldn't get deported from the peach state, and she said 'Honey, you might as well, we won't kick you out of the lobby'
Now, what I'm hoping with this is that Dark will show up some time near around that time.. technically, we can all hang around the room that morning.. or meet up that afternoon.. 'cause then we can ditch our luggage in her car (she's driving down) and check in later in the day. Or something like that.
Such silliness.
They also have the world's largest aquarium there. I am so going to go to that. Mark's gonna love it ^_^ Also going to look for a museum, something with a lot of civil war stuff - the husband is a civil war junkie.
Who needs travelocity? Well.. librarians don't, at least..
