Most hotels, if not all, will take care of your luggage while you are in the switch room period and then give it back to you, some will even take it to the new room, they will even provide lil tags so you know it is yours and can claim it back. No need to even take it out and put it in the car.

Trust me I am the business traveler expert and do much switching rooms for no apparent reason.
