Voting is in full swing...
Sep. 22nd, 2004 09:45 am...over at the MPAs, http://www.elvenlords.net/MPA/mpa.htm ,
which I only planned to be involved with via writing some silly intros and some elfling stories.
A definate change now. The voting in at least half the categories has me checking the list every few days. Yesterday, Mary reminded me about it - I have honestly been trying to forget about it.
I hate voting type stuff. I never win. I even run for public office, and I haven't won... been close... but never won...
Made it into student government three times by default...
Once I got only 2 votes of 28 and still made it in...
Badger Girl's State - ran for three different positions, lost them all. Was appointed to a number of 'city' and 'county' spots, was an activist in regards to Euthanasia with that, and Term Limits.
Also spent my time impersonating Barbara Walters at town hall meetings, and at the mock trial we held.
Wonder if I should try that for the real life elections... maybe that might get me a few extra votes...
Anyhow...
I've already made an appeal at numerous groups for people to NOT vote for The Canary. (The two of you who have, I will find out who you are and pounce you...) The Canary is part of MGM, so really... and then also, there's Journey to Valinor, which is cowritten with Joan and Carol.
Do not vote for The Canary. I'm not sure it even qualifies as a Mary Sue, the more I think about it. For starters, I don't get laid. How sucky is that? Second, the elf of interest in the story ditches me to go hang out with his buddy, the King of Mirkwood. What's up with that? And third, there is no mention of cheesecake. Cheesecake, being essential to a well-rounded story. They need a musical category over at the MPAs, I could kick ass on that.
Not song fic, original musical stuff. Okay, enough on that. Next on deck: Holiday story.
I reread Yuletide. It's not much of a holiday story, is it, folks? Honestly, I'm beginning to wonder what I was thinking with that title. Sure, it's taking place at the time of the 'holiday', which is glossed over in lieu of... all the elves admitting they'd have stolen the one ring! (Was I drunk that night? Or are my muses really that sneaky?)
The alternative to Yuletide would be All's Fair in Love and War. It's a long story, I'll admit that, but it builds momentum and anything where Lord Elrond ends up dancing and singing in a green dress has to be worth the time to read.
Hmm... what else can I shamelessly plug... (and the links all work from the MPA link, so you can get to all of these from there...)
Ah, best humor. For someone predomanently writing humor, it kind of sucks I'm doing so badly in this category, no? Poor PPB, she's practically on life support over there... just pull the plug now. It was a happy thought, whoever nominated them, but there's a chapter where the elves in Valinor realize Elessar is dead, and Elrond and the others come to understand what that means for Arwen, there's another chapter where a nasty Noldo punches Haldir in the face, and a few after that, Haldir gets hurt falling from a burning tree... despite the drunken parties on the beach and elves playing volleyball, there's a lot of sad stuff in there...
But there's nothing sad about 'The Good Archer'. Except maybe that Monty and I snickered our way through the youth fair at the YMCA as we wrote it. Bet everyone was wondering just what was wrong with us.
Let's see... what else shouldn't you vote for...
Oh, don't vote for my website. The FHH is a pleasent archive, and that was very nice of whoever nominated that (I have many thank you cards to send out, lol)... but... I will readily admit that the First Homely House would get it's ass kicked by the Last Homely House over at EOAS.
That being the case.... go take a gander at NitWits. Yes, it has a singular purpose. It's a Sunday Comic Strip about the Elves. But it's silly, and it's fun to have a Sunday Comic... http://www.queencheetah.com/NitWits

So, now that I've spent all that time telling you what not to vote for... a little message from my two dearest muses...
*Zhie hops off the soap box and somehow, both Glorfindel and Erestor manage to stand on top of it simultaneously.*
Glorfindel: There is only one piece in all of the nominations that Zhie is really watching.
Erestor: Those of you actually reading this journal entry probably already know what it is.
Glorfindel: Those of you not reading this journal entry are probably doing one of the following things: Eating a sandwich, dancing the polka, or milking a goat.
Erestor: *Erestor turns and gives Glorfindel a very odd look* Tell me again why I married you?
Glorfindel: I make life interesting. And, I like cheesecake.
Erestor: Sometime, just for kicks, I have got to see your resume...
Glorfindel: Certainly, love. *turns back to the readers* Now, for those of you who have yet to vote, just keep in the back of your mind that 'Silver and Gold' was nominated. Not that we're telling you to go vote for it, because that would just be very, well, unseemly. This is like that 'for your consideration' sort of thing.
Erestor: Plus, the fact that it was nominated caused Zhie to start drafting a sequel.
Glorfindel: Really? *grins* How many times do I get laid in that one?
*Erestor rolls his eyes and steps down from the soap box*
Glorfindel: Remember - October 15th is the last day to vote! *jumps off the box and hurries after Erestor* Oh, just tell me... give me a hint... is it more than twice...
