Did I miss anything? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
My favorite story this year (of my own):
Silver and Gold. I labored over that for months and months to get it just right. Must have done something right, I place third in the MPAs for slash fic with it.
My best story this year:
Was with Laura, being 'To Worship You'. There are so many little things in there that I drew on my own experiences as a Catholic that ended up twisting it, and the emotion and the dialogue are fantastic. It was so easy to write and to discuss things, and for this story to flow between us and eventually become what it did. I'm really hoping we find an excuse to pair up on something in the future (I know we're doing the colab with Mei, but I miss the writing back and forth with you, Laura! We must do it again!)
Story most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
The Brightest Star in the Heavens
Only because it tells of important things in Tolkien's universe, things people just gloss over or rewrite. Such as, I've seen writings where it says 'and then Glorfindel looked out to see Anor rise' and I think, okay, great, you know that Anor is what the elves refer to the sun as, but do you know where it came from? That it wasn't until the two trees were destroyed in Valinor that the sun and moon came to be? Do you know who it is who is the keeper of the sun, the name of that maia? Do you even know that there IS 'Elven Creation Myth'? Do you realize where Elrond's father is? What he does? Where his mother lives? So, yeah, I go a little deeper on a lot of what I write.
Such as...
there is a REASON for the pink flamingo at the First Homely House. There is a REASON it is the House of the (Pink) Sea Birds. Okay, I'm done.
Most fun story:
Lord Orophin, or, a Tale of Considerable Woe, featuring Elves of Mirkwood, the Lady of the Galadhrim, and the Diplomatic Stylings of Lords Celeborn and Orophin, with a dash of Thaladir to keep the sanity, and fewer Pairs of Pants than one might expect.
No, really, that's the full title. It nearly ties with 'I Came to the West for THIS?!' which includes bizarre relatives, the hiding of Erestor and Glorfindel's marriage from the grandparental units, and talk of goat castration.
With 'The Good Archer' third, for Elrond hiding under a bed and Haldir threatening to tie Rumil's bow to his hand (the latter of which involves a true story from when Monty and I were at the YMCA and some guy was threatening his kid with that same thing, but a baseball mitt instead of a bow).
Sexiest story:
Exotic Erestor. The title says it all, but basically, it's a 'set in modern times' fic, but I actually pulled it off that you don't so much notice that. What you notice is Erestor's new career. Hey, that's why they call them 'Fanfic Challenges'.
Story with single sexiest moment:
I think Just Peachy is was and always will be, but that's just me, and perhaps because the image is so clear. It's short (heh, and sweet) so go read if you haven't.
Hardest story to write:
Year of Madness. I swore some time back I would not write MPreg stories. Ever. And yet...
It's still being worked on. I have the entire thing sketched out. How did I get into this again? Oh, right, Aprilmoon... hee hee... she's like my bunny adoption consultant.
I will say though, I am pleased with how the story is going.
Most unintentionally *telling* story:
Oh, oh, you want to know, don't you? Hmm... only the inner circle knows, and even some of them don't know everything. I'm sure there are some lovely theories as to what parts of which are me and others, since I've said before I put alot of myself, family, friends, etc., into these (more so than I ever did with the TC stories). I will say that the more emotionally charged something is, the more 'real' certain things seem to come across, the more likely it is that the event or something similar actually occurred.
I will have to update the above once I finish the rest of this year's fics.
----------------------------------------------------------
I don't know if this is part of the same thing, but I'm filling it out anyhow
Name a CD you own that no one else on your friends list does:
I own the only copy of "Zhie's Mix", lol. Just a dozen or so songs that I have from various other things I own.
Okay... let's see... how about the soundtrack to The Fifth Element? Anybody else got that one? If so, second choice is Frank Mantooth's 'Sophisticated Lady'... I KNOW that's not going to be around much. I actually got mine personally from him :D I miss the jazz days...
Name a book you own that no one else on your friends list does:
Oy... okay... 'The Histoy of the Orgy' No, really, I do own this. Yeah, I can see you're not surprised. Wait, you have that one, too? Okay.. well then.. how about a first printing of Bambi (not the disneyfied stuff, the actual novel)
[Only a twisted mind could work 'The History of the Orgy' and 'Bambi' into the same answer...]
Name a movie you own on DVD/VHS/whatever that no one else on your friends list does:
DVD = Priscilla, Queen of the Desert... wait, gotta think who all I'm dealing with here... that's probably sitting in the player right now for half of you... okay, I don't know the exact title, but it has Edison's Frankenstein and the original Nosferatu on it; it was produced by this guy in our little city who owns the only known original of the Edison one and a really awesome copy of Nosferatu and lots of other stuff that's very unique, he also won an Academy Award... okay, I digress...
VHS = Most of my vids are run of the mill stuff. How about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Coming Out of Their Shells tour tape?
Name a place that you have visited that no one else on your friends list has:
Considering both of my sisters are on the list... this is going to be difficult... how about the very top floor of Merrill Hall, I took TW up there once, but he's not got an LJ I have to worry about, mwahaha, heh heh. It's a nice view and a lovely stairway to nowhere that gives a person a great place to write and to think in a lovely old building.
