Let's face it. You can only write a story with Haldir holding onto his plush purple rabbit lamenting Arwen's death while Erestor and Glorfindel jump each other and everyone else is completely silly including Thranduil who basically owns and operates the only night club in Valinor for so long. Besides, no one really pays attention so much after you get to a certain point. It's just filler, the basic story is done.
But hobbits... there's something a little different. I started by reading the hobbit (okay, it was read to me, but, y'know, you get the idea).
I was just so frustrated last night, was trying to write, write something, anything. Smut with Ress and Fin, no good there... the start of the second PPB series, nothing... the next chapter of Cross the Sea, an elfling chronicle, but I've got nothing.
And Mark's gnome picture with Melpomaen in it really, really was inspiring. I mean, that was a breath of fresh air to write. Something WITHOUT elves for a change. I went and joined this new little board thing, Parma Eruseen... surprise, surprise, elves aren't the only thing in Middle-earth. I don't honestly know how I got so stuck on just writing stories about elves. Hell, one of my favorite characters is Samwise.
And I know, I like Valinor, I like the Valar walking around, all the stuff that can be done with that. So, how about Sam's adventures in Valinor? But wait, there's more! I've been brainstorming this evening... and here's some other stuff that I think would really make things a bit more interesting...
First, how about some hobbit stowaways? I'm planning to bring a few more elves over to Valinor, what if a bunch of hobbit kiddles snuck aboard? End up in Valinor, Samwise ends up adopting the whole lot of them, and all the silly funny stuff that goes on with that. Could be really, really interesting.
Second, Haldir's backstory, it's a little iffy, the whole 'gift of the Valar' thing. I think I may go back, and I know this goes beyond the idea of the whole bonded and only having nookie with one elf thing, but... remember how Gladders and Celeborn in Lorien Origin couldn't have another baby? What if Gladder's ex-lover drops by, sees what's going on, the two of them have nookie and Haldir ends up being... drumroll here... Erestor's child? But, they say nothing about it. Haldir has no clue. I'd have to rewrite a few things, but the thought of it makes me bouncey. I likes it!
Third, how was it that I made Erestor part vala, and Glorfindel, who has been the chief muse, is just a plain old elf. I think I'm going to make Fin be a vala, too. I mean, how else did he just 'reawaken', right? So, instead of 'the valar just magically let you live again' we'll have, 'two of the valar made sweet sweet love, and now, here you are!' I mean, I let him play with Nahar (Asfaloth). Orome's not just going to give his horse to any old elf... but this could work.
I'm also really, really getting tired of writing smut. Anything I do from here on out, PG, and I'm giving up slash for a while, I just can't do it anymore.
This is getting long, I've got other ideas...
