Glorfindel: Wait, is it birthday, or begetting day?

Zhie: It's birthday, because this is her birthday.

Glorfindel: Then... how is it Beinie's begetting day, if it's Laura's birthday? Shouldn't we be celebrating Beinie's birthday instead then?

Erestor: We don't celebrate birthdays, remember?

Glorfindel: I celebrate my birthday.

Erestor: I'm somehow not surprised to hear that..

Zhie: Look, the two of you can sort that out later, right now we need to wish you-know-who a happy birthday. Can you help me out on that?

Erestor: Absolutely.

Glorfindel: But, if we don't celebrate birthdays, why does Laura get to? Shouldn't we just wait three months and celebrate he begetting day?

Zhie: Not everyone knows when their begetting day is, Fin.

Glorfindel: You do.

Erestor: Because her parents are strange.

Zhie: Hey, enough about me, guys, drop it.

Glorfindel: *bewildered look* Okay.. *lets go of the birthday cheesecake*

Zhie: No!

Erestor: *uses elven reflexes to luckily dive to the ground and grab hold of the cheesecake before it hits* Whew!

Zhie: Count of three, let's do this before something else happens. One.. two..

Glorfindel: Wait, I have another idea!

Erestor: No, no waiting for him.

Glorfindel: Let's make this Happy Laura Day!

Erestor and Zhie: *blink blink*

Glorfindel: What? Asfaloth likes it...

Asfaloth: WHINNY, NEIGH NEIGH NEIGH (Translation: Do NOT bring me into this, or I'll run off with Elrond's daughter again!)

Zhie: *sighs* Fin, do what you want. You're going to anyway.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAURA!!!

And, um, Fin says 'Happy Laura Day'. ^_^

Damn, made me feel good.

And, shit, made me not feel so well.

Article in Library Journal is about this 28 year old academic librarian, who, in my opinion after reading the article, is a slacker.

I felt good that I'm not like that. Felt really good thinking, I have a higher position, am two years younger, and feel I have gained more respect from my colleagues than what she writes that she has. I felt bad cause, like, thanks for screwing up the demographic for me (and the rest of the young academic librarians working our asses off who are out there). You just made us look like slightly incompetent idiots.

Oy.

This is why I don't go to library conferences... oh, right, I've got that one in Denver this spring. Dammit.

I'm totally going to ignore everyone else in the profession if I can help it that weekend. Networking? That's okay, I'll do it my way instead.

/end rant

I. Need. A cookie.

Or, perhaps two.

About five years ago, Maggie brought a kitten home. She and mom had gone to the pet store to pick up whatever and once a week they have a kitty adoption day. Mostly cats, not kittens.

In one of the cages was a scruffy little thing. She had been found in a storm, in the jaws a dog that had been shaking her violently. Not expected to make it, with major eye infections.

So, of course, she was adopted into the family. She became the big ol' fat cat in very short time.

Maggie went to Kentucky, and fat cat moved into TJ's room. Residence was taken up on his bed, constantly keeping vigilance when he played Halo or whatever other game.

TJ went to Oklahoma, then later Unca Sam sent him overseas. The fat cat stayed on his bed, then moved to the back porch (don't worry, it's enclosed), then eventually under the Christmas tree.

Then, everyone started to notice... she was limping. Totally not good.

What was thought to be an infection turns out to be cancer. Her foot, sadly, does not look like a little kitty paw anymore, and they think it is all the way into her hip.

On Friday, Monty is taking her in to the vet, who said they could try to just remove her leg (um, the cat's leg, not Monty's leg...) however, kitty has lost half her weight and we've had enough pets with cancer over the years to know it's not an infection, and it's not going to get better. She looks tired, she looks very tired. She's younger than Harley by a year, which of course is making me huggle my kitties more than usual today. But, Pikachu (known formerly as Peek-a-boo, but around us kids, Pikachu was so much more appropriate) had a longer life than was ever anticipated, and luckily, I got to snuggle and cuddle with her quite a bit in that time.

And, feed her french fries. Man, did she ever love french fries.

I know I'm okay now, but Friday, blah. I don't look forward to Friday at all. Even though I won't be there, next time I'm over at home base, there will be one less fluffball trying to leap on me. And, though Mr.Kitty is an awesome cat and Rumpleteazer is a cutie, neither of them had Pikachu's personality. *le sigh*

Took these pics tonight when I went over to see her; wanted to take them so that you can't see her foot at all.

Ah, there's my Harleycat... must go snuggle kitty now...
