In New Gondolin, we've got two ponds, one really huge one and one smaller one nearer to the road. The larger one has a fountain in the middle of it, which Ecthelion loves. We've also got three resident goose pairs.
Two of the pairs stay mostly to themselves away from the people, but the one pair can be seen boldly walking around near the entrance and all over the campus. Decided to name them Sam and Rosie. Anyhow, we also have turtles in the ponds, and I was told that we seldom get goslings because usually the eggs are eaten before they hatch (we're talking some big turtles).
Sam and Rosie were nesting about a hundred feet from the entrance, and then last week, I didn't see them. I was a little worried, since all the geese seemed to have disappeared. Yesterday, I went to some ponds down the road at a private residence (yes, I was invited, lol, didn't just show up) to film some swans. There was only one swan there (he was pretty) so I filmed him (until he attacked me.. swans are STRONG!) and then I went back over to New Gondolin. As I was leaving, I thought, you know, I should get some shots of the fountain (oh, I'm attempting to do a little fan film based on some Silm stuff, guess that might help explain the swan and the fountain and stuff), and as I was doing that someone honked at me.
I turned to see Sam and Rosie and their little fluffy flock. There's either six or seven, it's hard to tell. The icon is when they finally decided the babies had eaten and played enough and it was swimming time. Am hoping the turtles don't get any of the babies.
maybe it's just me but i think goose babies are way cuter than human babies
Also, we have a bunny nest in the backyard. Hopefully I can get some shots of them, too.
My other reason for seeing the swan was needing a pic for the Tolkien Track staff page... http://tolkientrack.queencheetah.com/sta_Jenn.htm
My leg is bruised from that swan... oh, he didn't bite me, he hit me with his wing. Very. hard. Mostly cause the person who was there with me started to freak when he came out of the water. We had an animal theme going on with the staff pics (well, Mir, and Mark, and I did..) and we had a Valar thing going on as well.. well, it'll make sense if you click the link
