Why do I keep getting the strange fish?

So, I've got the hermaphrodite swordtail and the male betta that looked like a female yet turned out to be a male with very short fins. What next?

How about a female with really long fins for a change... yeah... well... I lifted him (her?) up, and was all, huh, how come you have a big ol' bulge on your tummy, fishy? I was panicking thinking it was a tumor until I saw the little egglaying thingie and the look she was giving me like 'can I go play in Alexander's tank?'

*ponders putting short finned male and long finned female into breeding tank together*

On a sidenote re: fishies, there is a feeder guppy in the tank (accidental stowaway some months ago) that bred with a whitecloud minnow... the babies are just about big enough to get pictures of, and they're very interesting, have this white and black striped tailfin that doesn't look anything like either parent, pictures forthcoming
