Thank you to those who sent their prayers and happy thoughts to Paul. He passed earlier this week, after spending a day with his daughter and his brothers. The doctors had originally said 7 to 10 days; he had about two weeks, and it seems he just drifted off in his sleep.

Sadly, as it so happens, a feathered family member was lost this week as well. My parents' parrot, Sammy, spent a day being cranky and was gone by that afternoon. He was a rescue bird from a house that had been heavy smokers. The thing people don't think of with pets is if they smoke heavily, their pets are breathing that in all the time. So when my parents got Sammy, he had withdrawal fits, pulling out feathers and having tantrums.

He was a fun little guy once he got used to the place; he would talk (in English) with their parrot Shenanigans (another rescue bird, though Shenanigans came from an older lady who had passed away, so not such a bad home for him), and he liked to watch the fish tank and you could hear him saying 'fishy, fishy, fishy' when he'd watch them... he quite liked his fish. When I first met him, one of the first things he did after he muttered a sentence I couldn't translate (he spoke low, in a muttery, raw 'smoker' voice) and then when I didn't respond back, he turned away from me and said (mostly to himself) '-something something- asshole'. He had one of the most colorful vocabularies of any bird I've known.

I have a couple of videos of him on my cell phone that I'll have to figure out how to transfer over so I can put them on DVD or something for my mom. They lost the family cat (Cait Sith / Mr. Kitty) about a month and a half ago - he was only about ten, and passed in his sleep one night. Of course, it makes me worry, that whole 'things in threes', as our family dog, Smudgie, who was born at the house, is now...14? (glance across cyberspace at Jake) I think he's 14 (this is terrible that I can't recall, because he was the runt, born three hours after his sibs, and I ended up pulling the little guy out 'cause his mama was pretty much done with puppies after the first five so she was just ignoring it when the last one started coming out -- she was already nursing the other puppies, and he ended up being the one that was mostly hand-fed). Anyhow, he's 14, and mostly lab (life expectancy -- 12 to 16 years) with sheltie and shepherd tossed in, and though he sleeps a lot, and he's old, he's still a tail wagger and a nuzzler, so he could be around for a while yet.

Also, because I'm lazy and don't want to do a separate post... I have an awesome dentist. The only pain I have is from the novacaine shot, and it's not a nagging pain. Did take three hours while there, but he was awesome. And, I learned a lot about Komodo dragons while I was there. Yay for cable TV in the exam rooms. Also, brought along MP3 player with Lady Gaga and friends.

Muses still battling for nanowrimo attention. What to do... and btw, this is totally inappropriate concidering the previous topics, but the people in these Extenze commercials are sooooo fake. So fake. And yet... trainwreckish... can't take my eyes off it... can't change the channel (why bother, it's this or sham-wow).

Uhoh, I just saw all the UK folk pop on my yahoo IM... I better get offline and go find some sleep (no offense to my friends across the pond, but I'll be too tempted to chat unless I head off now!)

Am addicted to Cafe World. More than Farmville. Need more facebook friends...
