zhieAlright, so, I jinxed myself.
After discussing the fact last week that we always get everyone to write for the het swap, that eventually everyone gets their fic in even if it be a bit late...
I have someone who decided today that she can't do it.
This is after asking a few days ago if anyone needed more time or help.
She responded telling me she was going to work on it.
I told her, if you need help, contact me. She said she would.
This is what I send out this morning, 'cause there were a few people finishing up...
If you are receiving this message, it is because I still do not have a swap fic from you. If you have already sent it to me, somehow it never made it, so please send it again or contact me via IM - jubatus_rex on yahoo - so that I can give you an alternate email address or something like that. If you are still working on your story, please let me know that as well. Thanks!
I get this back from one of the (ex) participants...
I won't be able to send anything on the famous fixed date because I was unable to write anything by being too much busy elsewhere during all that time. So, I just want to warn you now. My muse was totally focussed on other things. So, you can finally forget me for the contess. Hope that you understand.
So, I respond with...
If you need more time, just let me know. I can send a message to the person you were writing for and let them know it will be a little late. Most people understand. Thanks!

I would not be able to produce anything because I'm already working on something else other, I'm really sorry.
WTF?
And you're just letting me know this NOW?! Less than 24 hours from post time?
*BOOT TO THE HEAD!*
Now, two things here... her story has already been written for her, and it's not quite what I would call run-of-the-mill het, so the whole giving it to someone else won't work (now, had she went with Elrond/Celebrian like a good number of the swappers did, then I'd have a chance at some rearranging). Second, the person she's supposed to write for turned in (on time! whee!) a very nice, longer than necessary piece, and from what I can tell, it's their first time writing het, and gah, what a let down if they don't get something! Sheesh...
Husband is offering to write the fic, or take a shot at it, when he gets up from his nap. I may take him up on that offer... he had considered joining the swap back in October but worried about finishing with having to do all the retail work... so I may just take him up on the offer... heh heh.
I'd write it myself, but I'm trying to finish up a last minute slash fic for the other swap 'cause someone bailed over there, but it's turning out to be the sort of thing that could never, ever, ever be written in only 1200 words. And y'all know I can drabble, so it's not like that... it's just literally a long wish list to santa, and I hate to disappoint by saying 'sorry, kid, you can't have the bb gun, cause you'll shoot your eye out... have a nice football instead.' (sorry... been inundated by xmas movies)
Grrr.
