I'm reading CNN today, and of course, the video entitled '5 year old's hug violates no touch policy' stands out from the list.

So, let me just get this straight.

We don't want our children going into schools to shoot each other, but we don't want them to hug anyone either.

I got a solution for that. Let's just stop procreating as a whole and invest time and money into robot children who are perfectly programmed for such things.

I swear, if we do have any kids, I'm just going to convince Mark he has to homeschool them. I mean, how many homeschool shooting rampages do you hear about (actually, have there been many religious school rampages reported? I should check into that).

I understand that schools are trying to protect against child abuse, but then, here's an idea: screen yer teachers to make sure you aren't hiring pervs! When I got my sub license, geez, I was poked and prodded and asked some of the dumbest questions and investigated all over the place before they let me go teach -- and I was 20 and had come from that system at the time! They still had my HS transcripts, with the ink probably not even dry! Yes, it's not going to be a perfect system, but sheesh, if having your kid run over and hug someone is your grand concern, then there is an awful lot in the world your child is so totally not going to be prepared for.

And now... the Friday Five!

1. Do you download music not from the popular genres of Top 40, pop, rock, rap, dance, R&B, or country? I have downloaded in my entire life one song, and that was when Charlie transferred the file to me. It was Queen's 'Killer Queen', and once I had it, I realized that it was on one of the Queen's greatest hit albums we had at home. Now, as for buying CDs, which apparently I'm the only one supporting that part of the music industry anymore, I buy classical, showtunes/movie soundtracks, and native american albums, too.

2. Are there any musicians for whom you've downloaded a significant amount of their material yet own few or none of their albums? Nope. Take Erasure - I own every album. I own every Prince album. Even that one that sucks that has the sheep inside of the jacket (which, might have just been New Power Generation's album with him singing on it). How, you ask? Half Price Books. CDs for 5 bucks. Cassettes for 99 cents. Booyaka.

3. Have you ever enjoyed a downloaded album so much that you went and bought the physical album? Gah, again, non-applicable. Many times I have borrowed the CD from the library and listened to it and liked it and then gone and picked it up, though.

4. How many different ways of playing music do you own (such as radio, stereo system, computer, Walkman/Discman, mp3 player, mp3-ready phone, etc.)? We have a stereo system with 5 discs in the living room, a stereo with one disc in the music room/art studio/Nui's home away from home room, a stereo with a record player in the bedroom, a boombox (does anyone still call it that?) that we use when we go outside or in the park, we both have CD players, and MP3 players, I use the computer (I have a flash drive with my favorites on it), the car stereo, and... heh heh... my upright, my electric bass, my violin, my Irish flute, Mark's guitar and his bass guitar, a set of pan pipes, an electric keyboard, two drum machine things, and somewhere I think there is a tamborine.

5. Do you still have and/or play a favorite vinyl album, cassette tape, or 8-track tape? We have a huge stack of records, there's something about vinyl I love. When I was in high school, I preferred them to CDs or cassettes. Our corolla only has a tape player, so in the car there is a big plastic box of tapes, a lot of heavy metal, some 50s stuff, the Doors, lots of Erasure, some trance, one of Hawaiian music... okay, it's ecclectic. 8-tracks... well, at one time, I had a few, but gone are the days of my 8-track player. Farewell, old friend...
