GLRFNDL is dead

I think this is the fastest way to inform people, and I didn't want to spam the lists I'm on(though I might to LB). Yesterday, I was in a pretty bad car accident. I haven't heard word from the insurance company yet, however, the opinion of every witness/bystander/person who saw the car was, if anyone had been in my passenger seat, this would be a lot more tragic of a post being written right now.
From inside of the car, what I viewed was that all of the glass was broken, the airbags both deployed, something was mashed in that I had to yank my bag out from under it (from accounts, that would have been the passenger door).
I could kick myself for putting new breaks on last week, but I'm just happy I didn't do breaks and tires like I originally planned.
I spent a goodly amount of time in the hospital. Everyone -- family, coworkers -- who has been running around, finding coverage, picking up meds, etc.,etc. has been fabulous, especially Mark my mom & dad, Michaelle, and Jeff.
Feel free to mention the irony, but Jake, Mark, and Nui have all already informed me that naming a car GLRFNDL is practically asking for something tragic to happen. On the other hand, GLRFNDL is known to sacrifice himself for others, which is pretty much what happened in this case.
As for myself, xrays and scans showed that nothing is broken or busted, but I am banged up and bruised up, especially from the airbag and seat belt. HOWEVER, those items kept me from going through the windshield (which luckily held, only cracked, from what I was told it was the only window not to shatter -- we had that replaced last winter). My throat is sore; my left side of my neck is swollen, as is my left ear. I've been having some trouble hearing out of my left side -- which, isn't great, because my right side hearing hasn't been the best since the jazz band days when I'd turn up my amp a little too high at times. Lower back hurts, and finally, I have minor cuts from the glass on my head and hands, and a gash across my face from my ear to my chin on the left side. My knee is banged up on the left side, and some bruised fingers on both hands.
I did manage to walk out of the car and into the ambulance. Riding in an ambulance is fun. I hope I never do it again.
According to what the EMTs were saying when I heard them chatting (which, for the first couple hours, I was shaking, cold, and felt like everything was fuzzy/faded), it's not typical for someone in that sort of wreck to manage to walk from it, let alone get out of the car.
I don't want to see the wreck. I'm sure I'll end up looking at some pictures at some point, but right now I don't want to see it.
So, this means, if you're in the writer's group... I'm not going to be there on Saturday. I'm not supposed to drive right now (because I'm on valium or vicodin or something v-word that makes you feel good), nor do I want to push the war wagon at the moment. (Funny thing how that car keeps outlasting everyone -- ERESTOR was a good name for it) For... anything else, I probably will be online, but my coherency will vary depending on the dosage of stuff I'm on (I'm writing this before I take the meds, and I'm hurting, so I'm trying to wrap this up quickly. Typing with bruised hands, not fun).
Guess that's it for now. *hugs* to everyone'
Oh... oddly enough, my glasses survived... flung across the car, and both they and my cell phone (which was in my pocket) have battle scars from the glass, but are both intact.
