Thanks!

Hubby says... "In the 1946 movie The Big Sleep, based on a novel by Raymond Chandler, after writing the screenplay, the director still didn't know who had killed one of the characters. So, he called Chandler, who said... he didn't know, either. But, I can tell you some of the suspects -- there was a little sister who would often get drunk or high, and then some pornographers took pictures of her while in this state for blackmail purposes... then there was the girlfriend of one of the pornographers, whose boyfriend was a chauffeur whose boyfriend was pulled out of the river in a wrecked car... there was a guy who owned a roadhouse where illegal gambling went on... I don't know if any of these sound like suspicious characters who could kill one of your characters, but you could take one since Chandler didn't claim them for that purpose... and I may have remembered some of the facts wrong (except the part where the author didn't know who the killer was). Anyway, it can't hurt to google 'The Big Sleep', starring Bogart and Bacall"
