Happiness is... cuddling with a kitten when your face is still asleep

I can't feel my nose. Or my chin or my lips for that matter, on the left side of my face.

Went in this morning to the dentist, was supposed to get the front two teeth redone (I broke off most of them in a touch football game back when I was nine... this was after knocking them in when I was five and having to have the first set yanked out by the worst dentist in the world... I have dentist issues... cause those weren't the only two instances of horror I had dealt with).

Anyhow -- he decided instead to take care of two fillings that I had to have done next to the front teeth, so that those will be correctly spaced when he does the front ones. Makes sense -- they were very tiny cavities, no problem.

So, he shoots me full of Novocaine, and immediately I can't feel my nose. Which is making breathing this freaky ass weird experience. I'm thinking, this is good. But when he started drilling, despite it only taking a few seconds, I could feel it in the one tooth. Figures, right? Everything else is numb, just not one of the little pinpoints that should be!

In the good news column, he took a real good look at all of my wisdom teeth, and we've decided they all get to stay (they have minor cavities, and he didn't want me to have to deal with that and thought pulling them would be better, but since they all came in straight and aren't doing anything they shouldn't otherwise, they stay).

And now, I sit at home half-drooling on the kitten every time I open my mouth. I've given up talking -- did make it to the post office ('cause it's next door to the dentist) and dropped off cards. Go me. Internationals probably won't make it in time, but the US residents should (and probably Canada, actually, since I'm closer to the border up here).

Can't eat or drink right now -- tried, and the water dribbled right out of my mouth. Excellent. Great blackmail photo opportunities right now. I don't think I've ever been this numbed up.

(And how exactly is it that dentists have the magical powers to make all muscles, bones, and skin in your face, and yet regular doctors, when taking a sample of something, they got nothing. So silly.)

I put myself on call in case someone cancels today to have the other two taken care of (otherwise I go back December 23rd). I figure, as long as I can't feel anything (well, except for that one tiny spot, dammit), might as well just finish it.

I think I'm actually getting number as the morning goes on... even my arm and leg on the left side are a little fuzzy feeling. So thankful for email so I can still stay in contact with work to keep an eye on things from afar --- our computer has been possessed for some weeks now, suddenly deciding to blast random numbers and letters across the screen and any program it can get into. Turns out the scanner has a short in it or something (it's an OLD scanner, from when we had Sirsi Unicorn; now we use Innovative Millennium -- that's going to make sense to all of two people on the f-list).

I think I'm going to go make some cookies. Probably good to do so now -- means I won't likely swipe many of them as I'm baking 'cause of the whole numbness thing (doesn't mean I might not try anyhow... I wonder how many licks it takes to get to the center of a gingerbread man... er, wait, that didn't sound right...)
