No ice skating for me.

Well. The big, monstrous gargantuous thing which many of us (including myself) said would never come to be has died as of this past Tuesday night.
They were going to build an iceport - 5 rinks, hugely huge and big as all hell. I was driving by it every day, the skeleton of a monster. (boy, not sounding like i was too thrilled about it)
Zhie's personal Powerade Iceport (RIP) history...
Couple years back when the new library was being built, I was in on all kinds of city development shtuffs. Prolly heard some stuff I wasn't spose to, but, ah well. Not like anyone REALLY cared muchly anyhow...
So, they decide, let's build a big sports center. Never mind that the Petit Ice Center is practically going bankrupt - let's get a bigger one, a better one! And let's put it just down the street from Zhie (I'm positive that was written in the plans) so that she has to deal with streets all torn to hell and loud machinery and some nasty truck with loads of crap on it not watching where it's going that nearly ran her off the road 'cept she can drive really fast and got away before 'saluting' him in a very one-fingered fashion.
To do this, they need to buy up all these people's houses - they're buying stuff up for the library, too, and buying stuff up for the ice port. They had to cut down some of my favorite trees. They paved paradise... and put up a really ugly shit thing.
Zhie and the ranger went around taking pictures of the buildings they tore down. Beautiful buildings. I was so upset when the Tomoro building came down. I have a brick from it- I went to the site, because they were just trashing the rubble, and the building was this beautiful place, and made of Cream City brick. So I got the guys to give me a couple, and took one to the library and kept the other one and I think my mum got one, too, cause they offered one to her. *sigh*
Then, although, okay, they're only buildings, right? I went around to the schools promoting the library project. I get to this one group, and when I ask if there are any questions, this one little girl asks 'Why did the library have to tear my house down?'
Now, that I looked into - hers was one of the ones taken down for the Iceport project. Which is now over with. No more project.
So, now my thought on this whole thing... what I wonder now... what are they going to try to do in its place? The company basically went bankrupt, and the city was originally going to take out these extra loans for them, but then we'd be responsible for the money, and so the mayor told the council we had to let the people talk (i like our mayor, btw, our current one) and people said 'nooooooo' but not like that that'd be just silly, and then the council went 3 to 2 against helping the bankrupted company, which is good, BUT, I am PISSED with my alderperson.
An aside... a few days ago, Monty told me 'I'm running for alderman next election. I'm not going to campaign; I want to see how many votes I get'
I ran twice for school board, lost both times. First time, got 800 votes and I went door to friggin door. Second time, I did nothing except the customary interview from the newspaper. I got 1100 votes. Still didn't win, but, eh?
And so... not campaigning... it sometimes works better. So I told her, 'you do that, i'll run in my district, we'll see whoever gets the most votes' We shook on it.
Guess who the two districts who voted 'yes, give the shmucks the money' were in? Wait, I won't make you... so Monty and I are not at all going to feel bad running against these guys.
BTW, I'm so not a fun person to run against. They have nothing to 'dig up' on me. Oh, the smut writing? Yes, well, I used to run the not so underground newspaper at my high school. I printed some smutty stuff in there, including a sex advice column. I also wrote and directed a play called 1-800-Good-Sax. I know there were other things... yeah, I'm a perv. If you admit it, they can't much do anything with it... 'Sides, I'm the one who would have sold them their dirty mags back in the day, heh heh heh.
Ah, and I now I feel better... okay, back to me and my books...
