While I was away, I continued to write, even though I didn’t have access to LJ. This is the journaling I did while I was on my trip. Enjoy!

LJ – Disconnected

12:27 pm

When we got here, I was a little bit worried. We found out that our boarding passes didn’t have the same seat numbers as the Itinerary. We sat in the concourse, which was DEAD despite Mom’s worries that we would be rushing from baggage to security to the terminal, for an entire hour before anyone else started showing up. That’s right. I could have been running up and down the concourse (which is HUGE) yelling ‘I’m running with scissors and I fucking love elves!” and the only one who would have heard was Mark. Back to the seats.

We were supposed to be 17 C&D. We are going to be 8 E&F.

They changed to a bigger plane (prolly ‘cause it’s going to be fucking filled with librarians). However, there are tons of seats available. Yeah. So, they put us on the three seat side and when I went to talk to the gal at the counter (when someone finally showed up – yes, that’s right, we were truly alone in the concourse. The security guy finally decided to leave us alone, too), she blocked off the other seat beside us, so that we will be near the front in a three seat run with a whole extra seat. That means, I have no worries about the laptop – I was trying to figure out where it would go, ‘cause I really, really don’t want it above in the overhead, and my carryon (I brought the goldenflower bag ^_^) won’t fit above… teehee.. cause the middle earth guides in there is making it bulge… BUT, I did learn my lesson when we went to Florida. Took a backpack, and that mofo was damned uncomfy.

So. Seats E and F, plus D as an extra seat. I have seat E, he has F. We’ll switch of course, so I’m at the window. But. Heh heh. Yeah. *snickers* Love it.

The sky is darkening. Thunderstorms are expected for the next few days in Denver. Mark is somewhere hunting for water; I think we’re just going to eat on the plane. One hour until boarding – I’m going to get back to the 25 Fluffies now. Working on the first one, PICNIC. Very much enjoying myself with it. Picked the Rivendell elves. This is going to cross through the time when Arwen would have been in her 20s, so, lil Arwen.

Oooo… here’s the plane! Coming on back; once they unload and all, we’ll… ooops, not our plane, wrong gate. There’s four gates all at one spot, I am easily confused with this sometimes. Well, only my second time flying. Forgive me? ^_^ Fabu.

So, the fluffies. That means, Morir is still alive (Erestor’s race horse) and for birthday I’m going to drag the scene from the PPBs where the twins and Arwen and Glorfindel decide on a day for Erestor’s birthday (‘cause he never was given one). If I write fast enough, I might hit that one actually on my birthday. I mean… his birthday…

Back to it then..Tralala..

Conference Room B

There’s a librarian here from New Zealand. She’s neat to listen to. Just fyi.

Conference Room A

Amusements from the opening discussion this morning.

First, the prize for most Tolkienesque line goes to the lady who said ‘We have to know, what is in their pockets.’

There is a tie for the sexually tilted lines; first, the guy who explained that he is from New Jersey and has to be careful how he says ‘Rooms F and G’ because with his accent it sounds like ‘Effin’ G’. Also, tied then with the lady who announced one of the names of the winners of the raffle phoenetically as ‘sack-lick’ (sachlich). Runner up: When one of the slides showed the ‘Cox Room’.

Amazing that I can recall those, but then, listening for pseudo-smut was what kept me awake during the overextended informercial that was the conference introduction. I refuse to blame my inability to keep my eyes from closing on the fact of the (very, very) large strawberry daiquiri I had last night.

I am currently awaiting the Inventory lecture to start. Ah, Inventory, how I hate thee.. It is such a time consuming effort for so little an end result. But, it must be done. I was originally going to go to the 2006 update, but then I’ve realized from the last two that I’ve been to that they are going through the individual system updates at each of the little subsections, so if I go to the big one I have a feeling it will be little more than ‘Cliffs Notes to the rest of the conference’. And, although I was extremely intimate with Cliff during high school and some of college, I feel that reestablishing that relationship now will only result in future heartache. Cliff really had a thing for me, y’know. Anyhow..

I guess I could be more productive during this time, and since I still have about ten minutes, I think I will look over the Picnic prompt. I want to work on that a little bit. I need to find out whether or not laptops can be used while in an airplane. Since I’m transporting it with me anyhow, I would think, hey, why not use it.

Lunch today, we found a number of places are closed for business on the weekends. *shrugs* Oh, well. Mark and John are at the field museum. Mark and I are going to try to hit the Denver mint sometime on Monday – mostly because there is very little on Monday program-wise that I want to go to, so I tend to think I’m going to skip out a few of these meetings. Mostly because, I’m looking through the selections going ‘know it, know it, don’t need it, don’t need it’. One of the things about running a library on such a small scale is you have so many fewer people to deal with, so many fewer problems. I mean, I should remember that from public library work, but it begins to seem so long ago. My ‘inner Erestor’ keep repressing (oppressing? Kicking into a little rathole somewhere to be forgotten) those days of public librarianship.

Well, then, five minutes. Best not waste it. I’ll be in Rivendell if anyone needs me. (Yeah, like that helps. This won’t be posted for a few more days anyhow. I kinda wonder if anyone is listening to the voice posts I’m making or not. Hmm.)

*pounces*

*misses pouncing..*

*misses cheesecake, too..*

Conference rooms 5&6

Last night we went to see the Denver Aquarium. Very, very nice. They even had one exhibit with a tiger in it. I do believe the tiger was closer than when you see them in the zoo some ways away or even when we were in Disney and they had the Animal Kingdom thing. Tomorrow, I have already looked at the schedule, and there isn’t a whole lot that I want to do tomorrow, in all honesty. One program from 3pm to 4pm. One would think I could sleep in, but I have a breakfast scheduled with the regional rep for this company (which, I’m thinking, it must mean that either a. my boss has some wicked mad connections or b. our library system must be pretty sweet (okay, that I knew already) to score an appointment with a regional rep. Anyhow, should be an interesting time, I know practically nothing about her except that she had a wonderful accent (as per what my boss said; he told me he loves to listen to her talk) and what she does. Compared to, my boss went and let the elf out of the bag about me, so to speak.

I have gotten little to no writing done. I realized just last night that technically, I could charge internet to my hotel room and the college would pay for it. But, if I do that, I may not leave the room to see all the fun stuff Denver has to offer.

Fun stuffs.. yes, I am enjoying myself now. I think a bad airport and shuttle experience can make anyone grumpy including me, especially since this was right after our car battery dying the day before we left, and Mark’s childhood kitty, Pansy, passing away less than twenty-four hours before take-off.

Gah. I just heard someone else’s cell phone. I can’t believe that some of these people are librarians. Cell phones going off, people being rude, pushing and shoving to get down the hall in some cases, and shouting at presenters, and even interrupting at times. Oy vey!

I have nine minutes before the beginning of the last session of the day, so I think I am going to open up my fluffy file and work on it. The happenings at the horse races this weekend and a conversation with one of my peers who loves horse races has already prompted one of the future fluffies which will deal with the fate of Morir a bit.

The last presentation totally sucked. Hoping for not getting two in a row.

Until next I type…

Centennial Hall G

3:22pm

The current presenter is making OCLC jokes, which I would share but I regret I am the only one in the vicinity that would think them funny.

The cataloging updates were not so special as I originally had hoped for.

And now, I have 24 hours hours left in Denver. Literally, my plane leaves in 24 hours and 5 minutes from now. Well, to the souvenir shops then.. I doubt I shall quite find a ‘souvenir worth saving’ (I had such plans to work on that this weekend, too), but I’m hoping I’ll find a neat thing or two for dad and Nens. Already got something for our moms (nifty canvas bag with a moose on it for Mark’s mom and a spoon with bears and a moose on it for mine cause my mom collects the spoons from different states).

Speaking of that, I have come up with an interesting fifty states idea that I want to put into action when I get back.

Okay, that’s all for now.

Denver International Airport

Concourse C (Terminal C48)

2:00 pm

In one hour they will begin boarding our airplane. This time, we will have the signature service, which is basically this airline’s version of first class with all the frufrus including the big cushy leather seats and the mega wide aisles and all that. I kinda liked our ‘couch’ from the flight coming in. As long as we don’t get hit by lightning, hey, I’m good. It’ll be good to get back to Milwaukee.

It took us an hour and fifteen minutes from the time we arrived here until now, sitting at the terminal. I really have to wonder what it is about Milwaukee that everything goes so very fast. We are an international airport; it’s not like we don’t have direct flights. It’s not like we’re some tiny little place. And yet, total time from arrival to terminal the other day was… *scrolls up* about twenty-seven minutes.

Food came! Nachos and chicken strips. Nummers. And I just discovered I can create a travel table out of a duffle bag and laptop carrier. I rock.

Same as last time

2:46pm

They just landed the plane that we are going to be on. I am (still) sitting on the floor – I find the floor is comfier than the chairs. There is a purple crayon and a green crayon lodged underneath the wallboard behind the carpet about four or five feet away. When I told Mark they were there, he said ‘I’m sorry, but I don’t think I can get them for you, sweetie’. Heh, he’s a cutie.

So, there are two crayons, destined to live their lives beneath the wallboard, watching the constant stream of passengers going to and fro, and perhaps someday another crayon might join them, or a pen or something. Hopefully not a marker; that would be just sad. Sad, yes, because one day the marker would dry up and the crayons would live on. Kinda like some elves taking a dwarf into Valinor. See, we always come full circle.

Writing has not been, well, let me start again. Denver was not an environment condusive to me writing. I am bringing back a plot bunny with me. I can’t say much about it now, but- actually, Mistletoe in May will be up soon. I can talk about it.

Erestor and Glorfindel, a story about Glorfindel trying to track down the decendants of the houses of Gondolin. It will be the prequel to the story I wrote for MiM. If I can, I want to try to write it tonight and tomorrow and get it to Sian for inclusion in MiM. Yes, yes. Alrighty, boarding starts in eight minutes, and this little cheetah needs to find the potty room. When next I type, I shall be home sweet home again by the lake, almost. Big huggles and smoochies to everyone. Yay, the cheetah’s heading home. ^_^

4:30pm

Somewhere over Nebraska

Bet y’all weren’t expecting a post like this, were ya?! Hee hee, Mark sorta pointed out that, hey, everyone else is using their laptop on the flight, I might as well, too. Especially considering I made sure it was totally charged up before we left.

We hit a bit of turbulence taking off. Okay, more than I have dealt with (this is only the fourth flight I’ve taken though, so perhaps I was just really really lucky.

We are right on the wing, so we can see it going up and down and way way down sometimes. Currently I am listening to the soundtrack to Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and I am realizing now how much I really miss being in musical performances. (The very last one I was a part of was Joseph the summer I graducated from high school for the Catholic youth group – which,, interesting thing, I participated in that youth group constantly, but I think I was the only one not officially a member. And why was I not – well, I never went through Confirmation. Yeah, I know, I know. Bad Zhie. Ooo.. cookies are coming around now. I just realized I still have my soda sitting here. I’m thinking, y’know, if I don’t drink the soda, I won’t have to use the airplane potty – which is tinier than the potty on my parent’s boat… er, I forgot a parenthesis somewhere…

On all Midwest flights (after 10am) they bake cookies on board for the passengers. Yummy yum. These are awesome cookies, too. And you get, count ‘em, two. One for each hand!!! Heh.

So, which muses came along, I suppose is a question some might have been asking.

Erestor, Glorfindel, Legolas, and Haldir. Cirdan was there already. *shrugs* Well, he was. And, yes, there is a fic to go with the trip. Complete with how does one ‘fly’ across Valinor. So, I suppose I adopted two bunnies, except one flew there and back again. The other one I found in the bathtub of the hotel. Honestly.

And I just found out, if I close the window, I can actually see the computer screen.

That’s right, I’ve just been typing without any knowledge of what was appearing on the screen. But now, I can correct typos. Hmm, I should save this now that I can see the save button…

I guess I should also change the time on the computer to reflect where we’re going. Mmm, lured by cookies…

Okay. I have decided that I do not so much like the signature service. The seats are not all that much bigger, and there is less room beneath the seats to stow carryons. Also, the trays are too frickin’ big for anyone to fold over completely except for the kids on board. I know, I’m looking around, cause at first I thought that it was just Mark and I having troubles. Gah.

Also, the flight attendents are not as happy as they are on the general flights. Or, maybe, it’s ‘cause Mark and I do not look like many of the ‘suits’ on board. We’re both in jeans, and he’s wearing a shirt declaring he’s in Gryffindor house, while I have my ‘I went to Middle Earth and all I got with this crummy ring’ shirt on.

Or we just got a pair of unhappy stewardesses.

I think I shall finish my cookie, write a bittle and (no, I didn’t spell that wrong, I am actually going to write a bittle, not a bit, not a little, but a bittle) then go check out the airplane potty situation.

Touchdown (Good for six points if you like) will happen at 6:45pm. One hour from nowish.

I love making up words.

Wordages.

Wordies.

Wordadaddadoodles.

'LJ - Disconnected' is sort of like 'Tin Roof - Rusted!' Or something.

Hey, I listened to your voice posts! You have a nice voice.

And, um, I've never been to Denver, unless the airport counts.

Erestor and Glorfindel, findel, findel, Erestor and Glorfindel, findel fendel fee.

Yes, I've lost it.
