*sigh*

I came home to find my poor speckled catfish, the one who first tried to warn me of something being amiss in the tank weeks ago, was dead. Babygwee and friends were all freaking and hiding under the filter; I think due to the fact that the catfish was master of the tank back at the library and seeing him lying on the bottom was an unhappiness of vast purportions

On the other hand, it has been discovered that the apple snails like to eat the fish. I have a bad feeling that is what happened to the one totally missing fishy. My apply snail here at home was devouring, live and wiggling, one of the minnows in the home tank last night. Snailypoo has been quarantined - when we tried to rescue the fish, the snail snapped it's foot flap shut and snapped the tail off the fish.. poor fish..

And, we would not have known about that had our rainbow shark (Morgoth, last of the Tolkienesque fish, so you know he has to be old) was gasping and on his back on the bottom.. every time we tried to get him out last night, he'd run away.. it was when Mark was checking on him that he noticed the snail doing it's nasty thing. So, I'm down three fish in 24 hours.

When it rains it pours. I'm used to losing a couple at a time, but this has gotten ridiculous. *crosses fingers, says a little prayer* right now, the big home tank has been ok, so I'm hoping the anglefish and gouramis and friends all stay ok in there

**huggles** That just sucks!

We had an apple snail in our tank a few years back. Didn't think too much of it as it was pretty big, we had problems with the gourami beating up other fish.

Two days went by with no problems, just the big blue gouramis were 'scoping out' the snail.
One morning I wake up to this 'clink, clink, clink' noise. I get up wander around the house trying to find the source of this noise. Well hell!! It's coming from the aquarium! The blue and pearl gouramis are having a friendly game of handball with the apple snail! Yeah, they're bouncing it off the glass!!
While I'm trying to find the net to scoop him out and put in the isolation pen, they must've pinned it down or something 'cause when I looked next they had pulled the snail out of its shell and were chowing down!!! Ugh!!
I couldn't believe it!! Wicked, wicked gouramis.
