We went from 'this bookcase is falling apart and we need a new one' to 'let's move everything the fuck around'.

Okay, it had to be done anyhow, but this was supposed to be costume making weekend *whimpers* I really want to get that dress done for the convention. I mean, I have the blue one to fall back on, but now I'm really wanting to finish the golden flower one... really, really wanting to... especially now that Fin's all happy with the 'hottest elf' thing... anyhow..

The DnD bookcase has seen better days. It's the companion to my LOTR one, except, DnD books are heavier than LotR books. Therefore, the shelves on the DnD one are all fallen down on the one side and slanted. Like a funhouse bookshelf. NOT good for the books.

So we were just going to replace it. Then Mark suggests we get a new CD cabinet. Granted, we have many homeless CDs running around right now, but wall space is at a premium here - it's only a two bedroom apartment. Anyhow, after measuring things, we figured, we can remove the old bookcase, and put two CD cabinets there. And then the DnD books can go....um....

So in the music/art room (the other bedroom) we have two small bookcases that my grandpa made for me long, long ago. We spent yesterday and today out looking for a decent sized (5/6 shelf) bookcase. Do you know what most places are doing now? They are making them so that they are mostly metal with no back to them. Gah. They look terrible, and the books will not be happy on them.

I got the brilliant idea today to buy magazine boxes and then buy an econo shelf thing (the kind you'd put in a basement with shelves that hold 250 lbs of weight or something) and put the boxes with the DnD books on that in the extra room and take out the little bookshelves.

Went to the office store to get these - and they don't sell the cardboard acid free ones anymore. What they sell are either black cardboard ones (not acid free, dammit) or plastic ones (which were... cheaper? eh?) We toss the two boxes of plastic ones in the cart, and then Mark says 'looks! they have furniture!'. Meandering back to where a big mess is (as they are remodeling) hidden in the back is a lovely 5-shelf bookcase, with more real wood than on any bookcase I've seen thus far in our searches, for less than any of the 5-shelvers we've seen. Actually, it's even on sale for twenty dollars less.

We check with the guy just in case. Yep, no kidding, on sale. It's a dark, dark oak finish. Me likes. Oh, but the warehouse is closed after 5 on Sunday. Oh, but you can get them to delivery it.

Me: Okay... what's the delivery fee?

Minimum wage stock boy: Anything over 50 bucks is delivered free.

Me: When will they deliver? I'm never home during the day.

Minimum wage sales clerk: They can bring it on Tuesday.

Me: Whoa. I have off on Tuesday. I'll be home.

Them: Sign here!

Me:...do y'all work on commission or something?

So, my shelf comes in on Tuesday. Er, our shelf. *crosses fingers*
