I think I'm up to 79 footnotes
Aug. 20th, 2007 01:59 amThe paper is done. The graphics, not so much, but those will be easier now that I have the text figured out. Silliness has to be inserted. Must make Tickle-me-Elmo jokes when discussing Olwe and Elwe's brother.
Anyhow, it was a very LOTR-evening. I spent from 7pm to 10:30pm at McDonalds again, working on my paper. I am well aware that when I am home, there are way too many distractions. Muses have fled or are at least staying out of the way. Except for Fingon and Elrond. Fingon's very clingy, and Elrond just gives me the look that says 'I'm sitting on this couch and you can't make me leave'.
Even the king's vacated his playstation. That's practically unheard of.
Bought new big luggage piece today. My luggage was previously small, which, not so good with Dragoncon and all the stuffs needed. So, this year, I will have enough room without it bulging all over. It's that standard green-grey color, but it's happily a cross between Mirkwood and Lothlorien. With real balrog hide handles. Okay, maybe not that. I will have to get more purple duct tape (all of our luggage has big purple duct tape pieces on it, so too must this one be marked).
I still need to pick out my pieces for the fanfic session. Have seriously considered using 'Regarding Assholes' as the piece I read. Still considering it.
Beginning to wish I hadn't suggested the Children of Hurin panel. Anyone going to DC, don't read the next line.
I have no clue what we're going to do for it yet - yup, no idea.. and I'm pretty sure Mir's aware of that, because with everything else, I'm like, here's the plan, and with that, I'm all, yeah... Hurin... had some kids... book really should be called 'Turin's Adventure'... so... about those... um... goats...
Okay, where were we... car. Car cost me 400 bucks yesterday. Not happy with car. Had Zee on IM for moral support. Was also at McDonalds while car was being fixed yesterday. Getting very used to that place.
Speaking of again, the clerk at the counter, when I finished my paper, she asked me what I was working on. "You know Lord of the Rings?" I asked.
Oh, yes she did. And then, she told me about her friend, who 'speaks Elvish and is working on the Dwarf language'. Ooo... well... good luck on that, not much Dwarvish is known. 'She calls me 'little one' or something' she said... 'Like, pen-neth?'.... 'Yeah!'...
So, we chatted, I shared info, go to Marquette, yes I really have 200 some books and crits, yeah, this is my hobby, it's what I do.
Then, about an hour later, guy sits down at the next table and looks over. "Excuse me, I just have to ask, are you writing a book?".... (after I giggle)"Actually, not today, I'm writing a paper that I'm presenting in Atlanta in about a week... ever hear of Lord of the Rings?"
I was then asked to explain the message of the book... the religious conotations... then, he says, "Excuse me, I just have to ask, are you Native American?"
Ah, this always makes me happy when people figure that one out. Yup, yup! And that's about when I realized, I must be so interested in Tolkien's crazy genealogy because of my own crazy genealogy. I feel a little like a peredhel, sort of, being part native and part European. ('cept I guess I'd be the kind of peredhel that went with Elf, considering that's how I'm technically listed on all such legal documents and things... um, Native American, not Elven, that is... *wonders if they'd catch it if I checked other and wrote in Noldorin next time I have to fill one of those out*)
