It's fun watching Stephanopolous... it's like getting to people-watch from my couch. He makes the most interesting facial expressions.

I also love how he's over at this little table away from Diane and Charlie, like he's at the kid's table or something...

It's a good mix, however, I so miss Peter Jennings... this is going to be the first election I won't be listening to him (obviously) during all the election coverage.

Anyhow... I really admire Huckabee's determination, but I'm still hoping for McCain to take the nomination. Wisconsin primaries come up so late that it's hard to say if we'll make a difference or not. Most of the time, I remember my parents casting 'protest votes', that is, voting cross party lines to try to offset a candidate on the other side. Basically, try to push through the weakest link of the opposite party to give the candidate you want on your side a better chance at the main event.

Interestingly enough, this is the first year I can remember that mum called and was happy with my presidential pick. I can still recall being back in high school, just shy of being able to vote, and all of the Dole paraphenalia that was all over my room. Actually, come to think of it, I even tracked down some Kemp stuff and had that up, too. And all the elephants... I had shelves upon shelves of stuffties, knick-knacks and anything else with a pachyderm on it.

Eight years back, I was hoping for McCain to get the nom (after Liddy Dole dropped... I'd have liked to have seen her in the White House), so the fact he's back is awesomeness. Yeah.

I like his take on environmental issues. I feel comfortable having him as commander-in-chief. Some of these people who run, whoa. I do NOT feel good turning over control of the American armed forces to them. No, no, no...

Financially, we are so screwed if we let a Democrat in there. We do not need a universal national healthcare the way some of these candidates think we do. Go look at Canada. Go look at the UK. I hear so many horror stories from friends who have it and hate it. I could see some sort of community health centers being set up for use for minor things... sore throats and vaccinations... but if we totally turn health care over to the government it's going to get worse, not better. His middle-class tax cut plan is also appealing... when we got our W2s for the year, it was a shock at how much was drained from our checks. It's just bizarre to think, hundreds of dollars get cut from my paycheck, and then get filtered into some crazy-ass programs and projects initiated by both sides of the political spectrum. It's just insane, and we need to get someone in there that will put a stop to it, or at the very least, slow the momentum.

I get a little wistful watching it all, really. I used to be so political (for those who aren't aware). I still have 'contacts' on both sides, oddly enough... still run into people and end up doing the hand shaking and back patting and when they go off and leave me there whoever I'm with stands there and blinks or shakes their head and I can only shrug.

Did you know, if you start affiliating with a party and start seriously getting to the point of running, there's like a conditioning of sorts, an initiation or something like that if you will. Other people in the party get together with you -- people you might even run against in primaries! -- and give you the talks, and get you revved up, and explain how things are, and ask you to tell them all the secrets you're hiding so that they can either be explained or hidden better, and prep you, and... it's intense. I can still recall the evenings, sitting at a kitchen table, papers all over, discussions over everything from major views to what colors and lettering to use on campaign signs.

I was green and white, by the way. I liked the green against the snow, since I was always running to begin with in winter months. The 'advisors' I suppose I could call them liked that I was young and green was a 'young' color. Arial Rounded MT Bold, Emerald Green ink. My flyers were light green with black printing.

Well, then, enough reminiscing. I came to the crossroads about five years ago and I took the path I did, and this is the first time I've looked back. There's still campaign signs in my basement and flyers in the back of my car. Someday I'll take that final step and throw all of it away, but I think I still need that cushion of time before I burn the political bridge. Have to make sure this free-spirit bridge is strong enough first, lol.

So, I just got one issue with the political bliss that is this evening. WTF is up with ABC finding such a big-headed picture of him for the results pages? Everyone else... normal head picture. McCain... big ol' head. Makes him look like an elderly Charlie Brown. Not good, ABC. Not good at all. Bad ABC people. Apparently, not so good with photoshop. You want me to help you out with that? I can make you a better icon, if you're, y'know, too busy counting votes and taking exit polls to give the man a good icon. Sheesh.

That is all. Oh, except for the 20 inches of snow we're expecting. Guess I'll go write some now...
