There is a big ass fire about two blocks from my parent's house. News -- not reporting a damn thing.
Thank God for the Internet -- I jumped into Twitter, pulled up all sorts of tweets on it, grabbed the location, found where it was exactly (because there's so much smoke they can't even figure out what's going on really), found what location -- a printing company, right next to The House of Magik ( -_- one of my mom's favorite places, she'd have been over there tonight, but she picked my dad up from work instead, so she wasn't -- so glad for that ).
So, it's a chemical fire, there's four people trapped (they know because one of them trapped has a cell phone -- again, technology), there's no windows, it's a chemical fire, so we're just all praying right now. Anyhow, from twitter, someone posted a link to listen to the radio calls, so I'm able to listen and keep my parents up to date. It's a four alarm fire, there's departments in from an hour away in one case. I'm just hoping this building doesn't end up exploding -- it's in a section where things are about a hundred years old, including a very old historical department store called Dretzka's, which made it through a fire years and years ago.
I grew up in this area. Lots of old buildings, tightly packed together, with apartments on top. Really hoping they can get the people out. Just heard that they were going to try to break through the roof...
