Bad Omens...

So... I came into work this morning, and those of you following the saga of Legolas, fish of the library, read on...
Haldir is dead.
That was my first thought as I came into work this morning. That beautiful blue-grey fishie with the red and yellow fins was at the bottom of the tank under a seashell. Sad, but true. Legolas greeted me with his usual 'g'morning, feed me' antics just as I noticed that it appeared there was another fish in the little plastic green plants.
With a heavy sigh I went and grabbed the net thing and figured I'd get Elodien out of the plant first, since Haldir would be easy to fish out of the tank, no pun intended, and I didn't much think of the 'dwarves' (white cloud, um, I think they're tetras, there were seven of them, there are six now unless one is hiding).
Except, all I got was two chunks of Elodien because Legolas apparently was snacking (as I was pulling what was left of her out, he grabbed one of the two pieces from the net and ate it. nice.)
So I'm down three fish of the nine that were added (of course, it would figure that the little prince would eat the most expensive fish first...) and the rest of the little ones appear to have been nipped, except the little deformed one, who only had a little nub for a tail, he's fine.
What confuses me is that we had a bottom feeder type in with Legolas to begin with (to jog the memories, that was Gimli) and they were fine (til Gimli died) and then we had a snail in there (called Little Balrog) and Legolas was afraid of the snail.
When I went to the pet store, I talked to numerous people at lengeth to get fish that would be happy in the tank, and also chose ones where they had a betta swimming with the other fish.
Bad, bad, Legolas. He's coming home with me tonight, I think. I'll give it a week and then maybe I'll try a female betta, or else another pair of whatever the fish was that Haldir and Elodien were. I feel particularly terrible, because with those two, I picked the two smallest of the tank, and terms, but damn, Legolas, didja have to go and eat the other fishies? they were courtin' or matin' or whatever two happy fishies do that they were doing... perhaps Legolas got jealous? Appropriate, especially in story Sheesh...
Maybe I'll get some little frogs for the tank...
