I nearly became a marine, was about two days from signing the paperwork, and then law school was proposed. So I started my undergrad, first in poly sci, then in history, and after a semester I realized the only class I managed an A in was a research class that the library science department was offering. I'm not actually a trained catalogger, though I do tend to do my own catalogging. I'm also not trained as an instructor, but I do that, too -- I taught for UC-Berkeley's Milwaukee site for a time, so I was able to figure things out. I actually was expected to be a children's/young adult librarian, but landed a job at an academic library. Of all the various aspects of the job, collection development is what I do best -- which is not only deciding what to put in the collection, but also what to take out. Most librarians are horrible at weeding (removing old books that are no longer needed).

I never turn the ringer off the phone as both my mother and mother-in-law do that and *I* hate it, lol... and my socks go from my feet to the clothes hamper... but I go outside, below zero, no coat, no gloves, no scarf, no shoes (no socks.. they're in the hamper, remember?) and Mark is always shaking his head at me for it

It stopped abruptly when I went to college and the jazz instructor told me that they didn't use vocalists in the jazz band... so I dropped that class and added mythology (and when he was signing my drop papers the next week, he then realized I was a bassist, slightly less common in the jazz world than horns, and his tune changed -- alas, too late, as I already knew he would be a jackass). In middle and high school, I scored a heck of a lot of music awards, though, including one from Rufus Reid himself (awesome jazz bass player) and played with and was instructed by a lot of other great musicians. Nearing the end of high school, I applied to a bunch of music schools, but my mother told me that I had to get 'a real degree' first, or I wouldn't get financial help with school.

One of the first things I read when I started to play in the lotr fandom was the stuff on Elf on a Shelf. The trio of crows amused me, as did the furry blue cape... Maggie and I were in an outlet store and found a giant rubber crow, so we bought it and named it Glorfunkle. The mini stuffies came from Monty.
