Post the explanation of where your user name came from. Then tag ten users whose explanations you would like to hear. If you are tagged, post your explanation to your page.
I've had a couple different user names online for different things... so here's the ones I recall...
zhie (sometimes, drzhie)
My maiden name is Zielinski. When I was in highschool, everyone called everyone else by their last name. Apparently, Zielinski is difficult to say. I don't think it is. It's pronounced more like 'Sa-lin-ski'. In Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, they were Zielinskis, spelled different though, same basic idea. The name more or less means 'Green' in Polish. The heritage of that part of the family was military cavalry officers, more or less... maybe it had to do with green pastures, who knows. So, anyhow, in high school, my peers would shout 'Z!' 'cause they couldn't pronounce my name. And I wanted something a little more than a letter. So I tacked a bunch of silent ones to it. Previous to that, my nickname had been Jazz, as those were my initials, plus I played bass in the jazz band.
The doctor part came from having a group of friends who were into Star Trek: The Next Gen, and we all basically equated ourselves to one of the characters. Guess who the Dr. Crusher of our group was? (I even had this blue lab coat type thing I wore quite often around that time...) When I started to write this massive self-insert fest type fanfic series (with everyone at my high school who wanted to be in it and then some), I went with Dr. Zhie as my character. That held through the ThunderCats fandom, and then when I started barding, I chopped off the prefix.
queen cheetah
After being in the TC fandom for a while, I noticed something. There were a lot of tigers and lions, some snarfs and panthers and leopards, etc., but I found myself as the only lonely cheetah. (Okay, so I hung out with a slightly off kilter Collie for a while, but... um... wait, let's not go there...)
When I logged onto chats in the beginning, I would sometimes just call myself 'cheetah'. I just decided at some point, being the only cheetah, I must be the queen cheetah.
Since then, other cheetahs have emerged from the jungle, but... I'm still claiming the title of queen... heh heh
spotted sphinx; jubatus rex
Both just other names I used that refer to cheetah-ness... the first is from the work of Joy Adamson; the other, a false scientific name for the king cheetah, which eventually was proven to be just a regular cheetah with a slightly different genetic coding and not a seperate subspecies
Did you know, there are so few cheetahs around, and their genetic structure is so similar from one to the next, that skin grafting has nearly a 100% success rate without rejections? The down side: One really strong, nasty disease could wipe out the entire species.
Okay, I have to get some work done... maybe i'll hit the others later...
