Tolkien Time!

Brief update, for I am beat! After lecturing this morning and meeting this afternoon, I walked to the Tolkien lecture at the 'other' university (lol)... and it was a bit longer of a walk than I thought it would be! But the view was lovely, as I've only ever driven quickly through that area before.
Plot Bunny Adopted #1:
There's this one statue which is basically a huge tower and at the top a sphere, with no writing on the plaque for it. Thus, I've imagined this statue created in Feanor's honor and found in Valimar; basically, a monument to the palantiri. Watch for it in the Pale Pink bunnies...
The talk was great; Bonnie got there after the talk and the Q&A, but then we stuck around and after nearly everyone went home, a very very small group (about fifteen)of mostly Tolkien scholars and archivists headed over to a pub for some food and beer... and I got to tag along ^_^
I am still on a Tolkien high from it. Learned about a different convention that is WAY more scholarly and am going to check into that as an alternative to DragonCon, since, let's face it, I'm very much into the scholarship, with some silliness on the side. And that's what this sounds like. Research later on it.
Plot Bunny Adopted #2:
One of the scholars was lagging behind for a moment and his wife turned around and called him over with little kissy noises and a call of 'c'mere, scholar! C'mon... that's a good scholar...' It was... all too amusing... and very cute... and so adoptable...
So, that was my evening... it rocked.... and I still have cheesecake left over from last night, so I think I'm going to have some now ^_^
Oh... final note... Bonnie introed me by adding 'and she writes fanfiction' to... everyone... which almost made me hide under the table... except... there was interest.... 'oh, we've heard of this' and that sort of thing... I was... shocked... and then, it was 'where can we find it?' and so I handed out my cards with the web address... and told people 'don't look at the NC17 stuff first, ok?'... and explained the goats... and Fin's cheesecake... and...
they... loved it...
?
...so...um...yeah.
:D
Of course, I kept adding in there 'I wrote a paper on Elven genealogy, too!'... but the fanfiction was of more interest. And, if I had to guess, it's because these are people who are literally immersed in the scholarship, and the fanfiction is a new or newer path...
Ok... time for cheesecake, and bed.
EDIT: Oh yeah, my glasses broke on my way downtown today, so I had to get them together with some book repair tape from the library... oy... meaning I had this lovely bright white tape on my dark purple glasses... very attractive... *sigh*
