pondering...

I like goals. They tend to get things done. They allow you to move forward and accomplish things.
I admit to being competitive. I'm... a relaxed competitor. The terms 'marathon' came to mind, but technically, the marathon being based upon something that was done spur of the moment and quickly as possible and then turned into a longer ordeal makes it not quite fit what I'm looking for. And decathalon is just grasping for something there... anyhow...
lotrfanfiction.com has been good to me -- or rather, those running it and those reading there. Some people have their reasons for not liking it; I respect that.
I've been riding the top ten list with Unforgettable for a while, in the category of most read. I can't even describe what an ego boost that sort of thing is. As the saying goes, I'd still write even without the feedback and accolades, but man, do they help get the next chapter out.
The other day, I hit another list with it -- longest stories. That's one that just creeps up on you one day and goes 'boo, mutherfucker!'
Yes, that's really how it says it, too.
So, I had a point to make amid the personal ego stroking... oh, right. lotrfanfiction.com
So, the question came up (or maybe it would be an accusation? not sure...) Anyhow, what it comes down to is, I was told (by no one on this flist *huggles*) that the only reason Unforgettable climbs the most read list there is because I don't post it anywhere else. This isn't quite true; it's up at my own personal site, and I add the new chapters to aff. It's posted here, and at two of the three yahoo groups I've got. But, I started thinking, maybe I should look and see about spreading it out to some other spots.
So I --- sorry, mail came, lost train of thought, got invite to attend some conference thingie in oxford, which is awesome, but can't go, someone else has their vacation scheduled during that time, so keeping this letterhead though, man do they have awesome letterhead, where was I... --
Oh, right, elf smut.
So, I meandered around the other day looking through the other archives/libraries I'm aware of for lotr fanfiction. So, first, it's gotta be any character or elves, so that rules some of them out. I have to be able to edit as needed, so the archive needs to be a self-upload place, which eliminates a few more. Besides, I think it's rude if you have a story beyond thirty or so chapters to expect someone else to load it for you, even if they say they're perfectly fine doing so. Then, there's adult stuff -- knocks places like ff.net out of the running. It's got slash & femmeslash -- no go on Open Scrolls, among others. It's also got het aplenty -- so Library of Moria's not an option, nor is a few others. And trios of elves (f/f/m & m/m/f). My goodness, is this fanfic horny...
So, that's why I'm stuck infiltrating lotrfanfiction.com -- because they're good to me and my m/m-f/f-m/f-m/m/f-f/f/m-no goats-naughty-sassy-historical-withcheesecakeontop-fanfic.
I <3 lotrfanfiction.com
*squees* I just got a phone call from a guy I met a number of years back... he was starting to write a book (non-fiction) and asked if I could edit it for him... I had almost totally forgotten about it!
*Glances up* So, this is a typical day for me, believe it or not -- and this is just the happenings in a half hour's time. The incredible part of it is, of the three things I just blogged about, invitation to oxford and editing someone's memoirs both still rank below writing what is essentially a smut piece that people appear to like to read.
How bizarre.
