omg fundraisers and cooking like gordon

OMG, YO! I totally forgot to blog about this earlier, though I went to bed laughing my ass off declaring it would be today's post. Luckily, Mark wrote it down for me and put it by the bed and just found it now. Lol... I love that he writes notes for me to remember to blog about stuff...

So, a little back story. Milwaukee-area-natives need not read: We have one of those (er, two, sorry channel 36) PBS stations in the area. They do a yearly auction -- the Channel 10/36 great TV Auction. Back in the day, especially the 70s and 80s, it was THE shitz. Everyone watched the auction. Everyone KNEW what was on the Super Boards and who the featured artist was that year. I recall it being the first thing on in the morning and the last thing off at night -- but I digress. So, now, with the internetz and all, very few people watch it compared to how many used to -- I mean, Ebay killed it and Craigslist gave it a suckerpunch while it was down.

Milwaukee natives start reading here (although I know y'all just read the above anyhow 'cause suckerpunch caught your eye): It also means that people don't donate such good stuff anymore. I mean, there used to be AWESOME things on the auction. Now, mostly crap.

As was evident last night as I turned it on before bed while waiting for Mark to come tuck me in.

...what? I heard someone snicker. There's nothing wrong with a grown woman having someone come and do a footsie cover check and turn off the lights and... never mind, I'll deal with you later...

So, among the crap... omg. One of the items was listed as "Personal Adult Comedy Show". To be performed at the home of the highest bidder. Valued at $200. It just got funnier the more they said. And the 'item' itself... what they had to represent it... was a piece of paper with blue magic marker and the words 'Adult Comedy Show' written on it like a third grader would and a picture of the comedian (head shot only) pasted in the middle -- seriously looked like it was glue sticked on.

It was just hilarious. Mark and I just laughed and laughed, and more silly and bizarre items came up, and we began to accuse our fellow Milwaukeeans of cleaning the crap out of their attics (which is probably what happened before, but there's less good stuff in attics now).

There was a nice set of vases at one point... anyhow...

It was the Q board. And about five or six items in, this little, well, it looked like a mirror with something stuck on it, heart shaped... anyhow, whatever it was exactly, it was heart-shaped and had the image of Xena the Warrior Princess kissing Gabrielle (Gabriella? guh, it's been years since I watched that show). We think it was Gabby. It was blond, and it really looked like a woman. But anyhow... we're pretty sure it was, cause the table captain announced it as....

'Xena the Warrior Princess is displaying her love for the person of her affection.'

OMG, I'm laughing just typing that. No, seriously, tears in my eyes laughing.

wtf. really. It was after 11pm... couldn't they just... oh, damn, now Mark's laughing again, so I'm laughing again...

Maybe you had to be there. But seriously. SERIOUSLY. For a mostly-liberal-leaning station, that was just sad to announce it like that. Funny as hell, but sad.

More funny than sad, actually... still laughing...

So watch for that to appear in a fic. Actually, I encourage everyone to write it into a fic if you can -- preferably one with Xena.

And the person of her affection.

Gah, I'm laughing again...

It sold for $21. There's a very happy Xena femslasher out there in Milwaukee, me thinks.

Oh, right, cooking like gordon... yeah, I'm making his Wellington. It's in the oven now.

*crosses fingers*

OH! and it's Glorfindel's Birthday today!!

...it has to be, because we got him a cake.

Okay, we (Jake and I -- Jake came over and we were going to game, but that didn't happen because Wellingtons take a damn long time to prepare, y'all) wanted cake, all they had were Happy Birthday ones, and we had to justify it. One of them was purple, with gold sparkly stars. We brought it home. It was marble cake. I am going to go eat some. So, April 28th is now Glorfindel's Birthday.

Let's hope I can remember that next year...

Happy Birthday Glorfindel!

Happy birthday, Glorfindel!

And ahahaaa, that auction sounds so pitifully fantastic.

Sounds like a comedian show. At least it made you laugh.:)

My mother would watch the auction every year and had bought a few things. One year she got a floor to ceiling cat scratch post/seat thingy that today you would find for probably 10 times as much and smaller... and in another she got a copy of a Monet that a computer was used to recreate the brush strokes (it hangs now in my living room) that's abosutely beautiful for considerably less then they were asking... Gads, she could get the bargains!

But your right. I tuned in to it (I think it was last year) and was sorely disappointed.

I think part of it too is that people have started realizing that maybe that 'stuff' in the attic they got from g'ma may actually have some value.

Oh I remember being glued to that. I'm not sure if we ever won anything, but I remember watching it.

But, that's really funny. I even sent it on to "the person of my affection."

*giggles* 'person of my affection' has caught on in our household... I think we managed to use it enough times yesterday that it's practically drinking game worthy now.
