Betta Update

Discovered Ambarussa curled on his side tonight next to his fake Egyptian vase thingie he always slept in. He wasn't eating much the last week, so I wasn't terribly surprised. We've had him for quite some years.
This leaves the betta count the lowest it's been in a long time, with two here and two at work. No, not an outcry to go and get more. Oscar Wilde and Dorian Gray were brought home over break and Mark decided to keep them in his studio. Perhaps I'll persuade him that Oscar really belongs in my room around the writingness and Dorian is suited to stay where there are drawings and paintings... then again, he's home more during the day than I am.
Mr. Blue is in the community tank at work, and Fingon aka Killer has been the 'official' mascot since the passing of David Lee (who had the job of Reference Desk Greeter fish for years).
I still wonder about Cassander and Panama... they were around the age that Ambarussa was. I hope whoever stole them didn't or won't just flush them when the time comes for them to go to that big pond in the sky.
Funny, the snow melted considerably today, so that'll allow me to find a spot for Ambarussa in the next day or two.
And for Brett, who has sadly been in a sour cream container on the back stoop for a number of months now... poor dead goldfish...
I do need to pick up a couple of algae eaters for work... must... stay... away... from... betta... tanks...

Date: 2010-01-25 01:40 pm (UTC)We had two that were on the counter by some ready reference stuff, and came back on a Monday and found them gone and water level halfway down (like someone poured them right out of their containers). Could have been someone who waited for the weekend librarian to go on break, could have been someone with keys to the room... never found out.
Panama was an 'ordinary' looking red female, but Cassander is the one I guess I can see someone stealing. He was practically rainbow colored, and I've never seen another one like him. At that time, it wouldn't have been hard to steal them -- we had the plastic containers and the net on a shelf nearby. Now we hide all that stuff.
(The pet store nearest us sold their bettas for $23 - $28 each, so if that's what the person who took them thought they usually went for...)
