Okay, elf-friends, listen up!

Alrighty, so... I've heard a LOT of complaints about Quill and Ink. Oh yeah, I'm going to mention them by name. I've heard complaints about other places, too... but I'm not feeling like I need to take up an official big ass public stance against any of them because to the best of my knowledge, they aren't suddenly thinking themselves the guardians of Tolkien, canon, and what should and should not be written.

Thus, I call upon you - all those of you who are elf fic readers, elf fic writers, people who just like to go to elf fic archives and roll around in the fics as if they were tens, twenties, and the occasional half-dollar...

Apparently, Q&I, who is/are quite harsh with their archiving criteria (for which, they use a questionable set of standards, which makes me, as a librarian and puppy lover, cringe)

I'm going to rant now (no, the above is not a rant, it's a bitching fest... here's the ranting...)

Erestor. Love him... LOVE. Thank you, Tolkien, big kisses for Ress. BUT. He has, what, THREE LINES. There is practically NO way to write him out of character because he was never GIVEN any except what the reader extrapolates. Which, boils down to this:

He's an elf.

Elrond trusts him and his judgement.

He lives in or around (perhaps under or on top of) the Last Homely House.

He can ride a horse.

He speaks Westron.

He loves Glorfindel (okay, I made that last one up)

And that's about all folks, without starting to interpret, and then sweeties... guess what?

No, guess.

Okay, fine...

then... it's no longer canon!

in conclusion...

I'm getting tired of hearing how they keep making everyone feel bad with their blatent insensitivity. Are any of you J.R.R. Tolkien, m'dears? Did he come to you one night in ghostly form and say 'You there, I want for you to take up this quest and decide for the world what is and is not to be written of my works'. What, no, you're not and he didn't?

it's het, it's slash, it's canon, it's fanon, we love us a mary sue or a self insert, or just plain general fics, smuttiness or not, and nearly everything in between. there were a few things that we decided no on... very few, though, basically, way graphic type stuff. oh, and no glorfindel/balrog pairings, that was another one... just because, there are adult sites that do well with that stuff, and why re-archive it, when aff.net and library of moria are such great places already? no need to reinvent...

okay, i'm done. for now. someone will undoubtedly come after me for this, but y'know what?

it seems a lot of people feel that they need to clamp down on others, and yet they seem to forget that there is no such thing as canon unless you are the original author. I wish they'd "BEEPBEEPBEEPIDDITYBEEPBEEEEEEEEEP" up and leave the rest of us alone! And get fricking lives. They done fucked up pretty bad to piss you off. Seriously, that takes a HELL of a LOT to piss YOU off...damn. YOU who is ever the MOST easy going person I have ever known...especially in the fandom.

I'm tired of it too...from the major extremists to even the minor ones...canon snobs. I guess if it doesn't fit into THEIR idea of canon then it must not be canon? Oh give me a friggin' break! *thumbs noses at them*

pretty ridiculous, isn't it? I mean, the movies aren't "canon". Why the big fuss? I have read some that fall into the "narrow rules" and are well written, blah blah blah, that were *yawn* boring... to me. But I am certainly not gonna . *yawn* I don't give a hoot how canon they are, if they don't interest me, they don't interest me. I read some fics that are not written all that great, contain grammar/punctuation errors (heaven forbid, bring out the hot poker) and they are very entertaining and fun to read. Enjoyable. So they don't fit the canon police handbook... big whoop. this is fanfiction. This isn't publishable work. This isn't REAL LIFE. Get over yourselves,people.
