Happy Easter

zhieWatching mass on television right now. I guess it's bad form to be online at the same time... I am stopping to pray along, but I lack holy water and, y'know, not being in an actual church doesn't help my attention span... and mass at 1am in your living room means you only have cats to offer 'peace be with you' to.
Upside: Not running into parents of people I went to high school with who at some point ask 'don't you have any kids yet?' (The peril of being a married, childless Catholic)
And quickie update. Have taken the next week off from work. Needed to. Stress level was on orange or fuchsia or something.
So I've made multiple trips to various stores and places to purchase yard type things. And, Menards is open tomorrow, which is dangerous for me to know. I mean, Walmart is even closed, but Menards? 9 to 7, for all your house and yard type needs.
At the moment, I have a two dozen not-yet-bloomed tulips, five strawberry plants, four rose bushes, two blueberry bushes, and two blackberry bushes that need planting. We're redoing the front yard landscaping so that the trees have a square of blocks around them instead of circular. Probably going to redo the bricks along the driveway, too, as they are very faded, some broken, can't find replacements, etc. so they'll match the ones we got for around the two trees, which are basically a square next to a hexagon. Pictures forthcoming.
Plans for tomorrow went from doing nothing to going to parents and having Mark's mom over later on. Good thing I picked up extra food just in case everyone decided last minute plans rock.
Stopped at an estate sale today that Jake told us about. Mark found some old Christmas ornaments and cook books, while I found four old silver trays, two very tarnished, but all very pretty designs. Also, a metal yardstick, which has to do with the pain in the ass time we had doing the art for B2MEM with only twelve inch rulers. Was almost lured into buying a clarinet, and as much as Legolas-muse (the rare, elusive pastey elf) might have enjoyed that, I couldn't see purchasing another instrument I don't play for the enjoyment of a muse.
And, woodwind instruments squick me a little. The reed sucking part. Blah.
So back to the yard. I'm almost to the point of breaking down and getting someone out to survey the property. The neighbors on either side have been great. (Basically, they were both like, 'oh, no, your property doesn't stop here, it goes all the way to this side, and to that side, etc.') We haven't met the neighbors in the back, exactly, (meaning, we saw them once and heard their kids running about a few times), but the border between is nasty. The question is, is the nasty all on our side, or part on theirs, or...? And I want to go clean it up, but I don't want to wander onto their land. It is obvious that our yard does go further back than what it looks at first glance, because of where our garage is, and shed, and the trees, and just looking at the fences on either side. Putting up a fence along the back would be difficult, since there's an 18 inch rule, and that's where the pine trees are.
I am still in awe of how HUGE these trees are. I really, really wanted a place with trees, big trees. And yesterday when I was looking things over, there looks to be a total of nine trees along the back. There's another tree growing in the raised area of the backyard, and two in front. Double digits on the trees. And the one in the raised area, while the smallest, is still probably taller than me. So, we're good on trees. And big trees means happy tree elves.
Part of me was a little sad that so much of the property is taken up by driveway (about 25%), but yesterday we were watching a parking debacle at one of the neighbors with them trying to get their cars and a friend's car into the driveway. It was made of fail. So, the long driveway is nice for having a place for guests. And also, for racing remote control cars. But since we only have a remote control cobra and a remote control mastodon, those will have to suffice for now. And that race will be made of awesome.

Your comments about the trees caught me by surprise and reminded me that I keep forgetting that a good part of the country isn't in a naturally wooded area. Around here, if you don't tend the land, it fills up with brambles and trees before very long. I do love big trees, though! I'm glad you were able to get a place that has some.
