Many of you are already aware of the terrible execution of the event that is being held at theonering.net -- and how not only Feanor, but also Smaug, should have won.

Fear not. Here is the match-up you *should* have been able to vote for, had they followed their own rules.

Tell your friends!

The Poll is here -- and really actually closes at Noon ET, because unlike some people, I understand timezones

VOTE OFTEN. I think I managed to take all the blocking off of it...

So what happened and why?

I have seen Lalaith's post and yours but am still only a little bit wiser.

theonering.net has a "march madness" voting competition between different silmarillion, hobbit, and lotr characters. The voting is unlimited, and they encourage you to vote often and continuously.

All good.

In their rules, they say voting ends at Noon EST on a specific day (usually 3-4 days for each round).

Still good.

So the last round had Feanor versus Gandalf. Feanor was down at 12% of the votes on day 1. By day 2, I had single-handedly pulled him up to 47%. Zhie and I then fought/voted him up to 50% and a little over. The next two days were spent maintaining his very slight lead.

Yesterday, it was to end at Noon EST. So I woke at 10:30 so I could vote and make sure Feanor had his lead. It was close, but Zhie and I voted hard, and at Noon EST, he was leading by .5%. Victory!

...except the polls stayed open. We scratched our heads, and I continued voting to be safe while Zhie went back to work. Things are okay, but Feanor is slowly dropping. Just .01% here and there, and I fight him back up. Then he drops to .2% of a lead and I text for help.

Zhie, myself, and two others start voting Feanor, and as we all are spamming votes, he DROPS down another .4% so he's now losing by .2%. Four people voting, and his votes are falling fast. This happens around 12:45. We continue voting viciously, and get him back up to 49.99%. He raises to 50.01%. He drops to 50% and suddenly polls close. With Gandalf winning by one single vote.

Had polls closed as promised at noon, he would have won. As would Smaug. But they stayed open an extra hour, and curiously, in that "overtime" hour, a whole army came to beat down Feanor.

Coincidence?
We think not.

Not only Feanor; the Smaug vote had him percentage-wise higher than Galadriel at noon (likely because of less votes overall).

Glorfindel also dropped a considerable amount during that time, though he had a lead at almost 56% at noon, and it fell to 53.5% in the matter of an hour.

Thank Eru we'd buffed Glorfindel up so high earlier on. That, and he just had a larger fanbase.

Who would not vote for Glorfindel - gasp!

YES!

I was about to text you and ask if we were voting in that unfair poll or not. It hardly seems worth it to vote for Fin. Because I have a feeling Samwise will cheat like the fatty-no-parents he is. D:<

We all know the true winners are Feanor and Glorfindel *anyway*.
