Stop the fandom, I need a potty break...

My muses are refusing to let me write. Actually, they're refusing to let me write fanfiction. They are insisting on something, and though I'm trying to win them over with the whole 'I'll do it after screw yule' argument, I don't know if that's going to work or not. So far, it's not. Which is not the best, as I was three and a half pages into a Glorfindel/Aredhel story that wasn't half bad... but I digress.
I am literally itching to write. Must type words, form sentences, construct paragraphs, build plot, etc. But, no, they are gently nudging me toward something else.
I am going to struggle through the rest of screw yule, sadly, and then... and then?
Theoden's a slut, btw. Just wanted to mention that - the Bruce, the wonderful guy who unfortunately had the stroke late last month, who, btw, his wife has been muchly appreciating, as have I, the prayers and good vibes and other such things coming his way - although it was initially reported he would probably never walk again, today he was able to a.stand on his own and b. push against the nurse's hand with the foot on his 'paralyzed' side, both being very very good and awesome things. BUT... he also mentioned that Theoden is a slut. Actually, specifically, it was 'Theoden was a slut'. Just wanted to pass that on.
I'm looking at what I did in this fandom and in ThunderCats previously, and between the two, I made massive writing improvements, and from the beginning of the LOTR writings to where I've gotten now, that's been a big jump, too. I write a helluva lot better than I used to. Those in the TC fandom can vouch that I had the market cornered on plot holes. Someone would set their gun down on a table in one scene, go across the street, suddenly, they'd grab their gun and shoot someone and readers would go 'wait, wha-?' and then the character would go make a phone call and... they'd call the guy who was just shot and they'd be like 'wtf?' so, at least i've got plots and stuff pretty straight these days. Just generally, I've done a lot of ironing things out.
About ten years ago, I thought, if I ever 'do' anything as a writer, it will be with plays, because I can write those well. The reality is, plays/scripts are easier to write. It's just names, dialogue, and direction. No emotion or much description, or anything like that, 'cause your actors and stagehands will figure all of that out for you with a play. Now that I know how to expand into that, it's much easier.
NaNoWriMo especially was helpful for me to do. I've set deadlines, but this was one someone else set. It was fast, it was a rush, but I did it, and although there are a few bits I could polish with Consequences, it's one of the better things I've recently done.
Back to my muses...
They are MY muses... sure, I refer to them with names of Tolkien's characters, and that's where they sprang from originally, but they've changed so much, and now... I need to send them out of Arda. I need to take them somewhere where there are no preconstructed histories and where I can make up the rules as I go along.
January is going to be a struggle with Screw Yule, because now I finally feel ready for this new adventure, but I don't want to do the half-assed job on SY like I did with the advent calendar. But February... *nods*
*snickers* Theoden's a slut...

Date: 2006-01-08 05:01 pm (UTC)Plot holes... you know, it's like on tv. There's a car chase, goes around a curve. Car loses a hubcap. Next scene, the damn hubcap is back on. Next curve, loses it again. Back on. Off. On.
