As I sit here meowing back and forth with Harley (who thinks bedtime now would be good), I try to figure out what to write that won't jinx me.

All of the prayers, happy thoughts, pixie dust, elf snuggles, and the like have helped very muchly -- not just to keep me from being a nervous wreck, but the sellers accepted our offer.

Now, we have to wait for their bank. It's a short sale, which means that the house is being sold for less than what is left on the loan. They do this when it's so, so close to foreclosure (June) that in order to try not to lose more money on the foreclosure, they do this.

So, now the bank crunches numbers and decides if this is going to work for them or not. If it comes back no, I don't think we'd have another offer that would work, to be honest. We weren't very far from the asking price on it. We do know there was another offer placed at almost the same time as ours, but it was so incredibly low they didn't even consider the other offer.

I'm optimistic that our strategy worked. We offered more than we would have if this was a normal sale, knowing how short the timeline is on this. The idea was, they'd hopefully take the offer instead of countering (which they did -- I actually also expected a counter, to be honest) and now, just the bank.

We do have to clean up the basement so that the inspector doesn't have a fit. We're okay with that; the current owners live out of state so they can't come and do it. It's actually something we put into the offer to do.

Anyhow, to keep me busy, I've started two big trays of seedlings in the back room where they'll get a good amount of sun and not be attacked by kitties. Right now, the cucumbers and morning glories are kicking the asses of all the other plants, being two to four inches tall each. Besides those, I'm trying to get some tomatoes (yellow and red), some multicolored peppers, spearmint, catnip, four or five kinds of melons, coleopsis (sure I butchered the spelling of that), moonflowers, violets, and I'm sure there's something I'm neglecting in there, too.

I have another tray I haven't started up yet, was waiting to see if anything took particularly well or particularly horrible. Also have peas and carrots, but according to the packages, those will grow up in 60 days, so I'd rather wait a bit on those (and probably plant directly with those?). So, that's my new thing. Getting up in the morning, going to the other bedroom and opening the shades and checking to see what has popped up and what has more little leaves, etc., etc.

Hmm, Yahoo doesn't want to load. I think that's a sign I should go and snooze. That, and my kitty has wandered off... yes, sleepytime now...

I'm not sure how cheesecake covered Glorfindel helps with the bank thing, however, I'm not one to turn down a cheesecake covered elf!

Thanks! *hugs*

Good luck with the house purchase! Hopefully they will be able to go through with it even if it is a short sale. Foreclosures cost them more than they will probably lose doing it this way, so if it's not a huge difference, then that's probably a good sign for you.

Also, good luck with your seedlings. Keeping cats out of them is such a challenge. You'll probably be best off starting the peas and carrots in the ground. Peas grow fast in cooler weather. Planting them in late April or in May will have you tons of peas in June/July. Then you can replant them as they die off in July and get a late summer/fall crop. I haven't had luck with transplanting carrots, but they seem to do ok sown directly in the ground. Just make sure the soil is well tilled and you thin the seedlings well so they aren't competing for root space.

Thanks! I'm really, really hoping they go for this. Everyone we've talked to down the line has been pretty positive that the bank will and it's a matter of getting numbers together and such. We've been getting the dominoes lined up in the case that it does so that we shouldn't have too much trouble with closing.

And thanks for the planting tips -- I was thinking of flipping back through some of your LJ entries for some gardening advice ^_^ I'm glad to know I did good not planting the peas or carrots ahead of time. I'm really wanting to pick up some raspberry bushes, but since nothing's a done deal yet I've kept myself from going that far. So far, the score is plants 35 cats 0, but it's only going to take one morning of me forgetting to close the door to the back room before work to ruin the shut out...

Sending good thoughts and blessings on the house situation.

I love to grow things, too! While reading across the list of plants, I actually said "ACK!" when I read 'moonflower'. If memory serves, a friend of mine planted moonflower back by her pool house and it became The Flowering Bush That Ate Fort Worth. We could practically watch it grow! She decided we needed to remove it and I was fearful it would fight back. :)

Oh really? Hmmm... *makes moonflower note* They, with the peppers, are the only things that haven't come up at all yet. I will be careful where I plant them, though. Don't need them to be the flowering bush that ate Southern Milwaukee, too! Thanks for the blessings & good thoughts... fingers are still crossed and I'm really hoping we hear something from the bank by Monday.
